Welder Mechanic / Journeyman Fitter-Fabricator

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Journeyman Fitter/Fabricator to join our team supporting large-scale structural steel and bridge fabrication projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled tradesperson who takes pride in precision work, thrives in a fast-paced fabrication environment, and wants to be part of landmark infrastructure projects across the region.

The ideal candidate brings strong layout and fitting expertise, the ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, and hands-on experience with structural welding and steel fabrication.

Key ResponsibilitiesPerform layout and fitting of structural steel components and bridge girders with speed, accuracy, and minimal supervisionRead and interpret complex blueprints, drawings, and technical specificationsIdentify steel shapes and accurately lay out beams, columns, weld sizes, piece marks, and direction marksUse fabrication tools and equipment including welding machines, grinders, cutting torches, overhead cranes, and precision measuring toolsConduct quality checks to ensure proper fit, alignment, and compliance with project specificationsCollaborate with welders, fabricators, and project managers to meet production goals and deadlinesMaintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment in compliance with all safety standardsAssist with troubleshooting and problem-solving during fabrication and installationRequired Skills & ExperienceJourneyman-level experience as a Fitter/Fabricator, preferably in structural steel and bridge workStrong proficiency in layout and fitting techniquesAdvanced blueprint reading and interpretation skillsSolid understanding of structural welding processes, with the ability to weld as neededKnowledge of relevant industry codes and standardsExcellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a teamHigh attention to detail and commitment to craftsmanshipPhysical ability to perform demanding work in a fabrication shop environmentPreferred QualificationsAWS certifications such as D1.1, D1.5, and/or D1.8 (highly desirable)Why Join Us?Work on some of the largest and most complex bridge and structural steel projects in the regionJoin a respected company with a legacy dating back to 1949, recognized as one of the premier steel fabricators in the Western U.S.Be part of a skilled team of 300+ professionals known for excellence in structural steel, bridge fabrication, and project deliveryDiverse project portfolio including bridges, commercial buildings, hospitals, stadiums, and industrial facilitiesOpportunity to convert to a direct employee and join Ironworkers Local 516, offering:Higher wagesPension and retirement benefitsFamily medical coverageStrong union representation and respect for the trade

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.00/hr.
