Financial Planning Scientist Intern

About the Role

As a Financial Planning Scientist Intern, you will gain hands‑on experience with how our organization operates while contributing to the advancement of the financial planning software used by Ameriprise advisors. This platform helps advisors assess whether clients are on track to reach their financial goals and, when needed, identify practical steps clients can take to get back on track. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to support meaningful enhancements to a tool that directly influences real financial outcomes for clients.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities vary depending on assigned projects(s) and may include:

Explore and analyze our financial planning software to understand how it works and where it can be improved

Learn the software development process from start to finish, including spotting issues or opportunities within existing tools and running test cases to make sure updates work correctly

Create simple, easy‑to‑understand documentation that helps advisors use new software features

Help troubleshoot and support more complex or escalated user issues

Work with business partners to understand how financial planning concepts are used in client‑facing tools

Required Qualifications

Current Junior at a 4-year university pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business management, Finance, Business Analytics, Economics, Marketing, Communications, or related field.

Graduation date of December 2026 or May/June 2027

Preferred Qualifications

High degree of self-motivation with strong integrity and ethics

Proven organization skills and ability to manage time effectively

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills

Ability to work and communicate collaboratively and constructively with others

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.

Basic understanding of financial planning (e.g. retirement, insurance, purchase or education goals and/or estate objectives.

Solid knowledge of statistics and mathematical concepts, including probability analysis.

The company does not offer corporate undergraduate internships for students with F-1 visas.

Base Pay Salary

The hourly rate for this role is $26 per hour. We have a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy.
