General DescriptionThe Grants Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing all financial activity related to the organization’s grant‑funded programs. This role ensures full compliance with funder requirements, accurate financial reporting, and effective coordination between finance staff and program managers. The position supervises Financial Analysts and ensures timely submission of all required financial reports.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesSupervise and coordinate the workflow of Financial AnalystsMonitor grant expenses to ensure proper classification and compliancePartner with Program Managers and Financial Analysts to ensure timely, accurate reporting to fundersSupport preparation for funder monitoring visits in collaboration with program and leadership teamsWork with the Accounting/Payroll Manager on monthly financial close processesCollaborate with the Budget and Controls Manager on budget development and adjustmentsReport any financial deviations from approved budgets that may require revisionsPrepare and review variance reportsEnsure all funder reports are completed and submitted by required deadlinesAssist with managing and updating cost allocation tables (e.g., occupancy, phones, copiers)Review and verify accuracy of financial data in program balance sheets and income statementsSupport monthly and annual closing processesAssist with annual audits and fund closeoutsReview journal entries prepared by Financial Analysts and prepare entries as neededHelp maintain departmental policies and proceduresProvide support to the CFO and Controller as requiredSkillsFinancial analysisBudgetingAccountingBlackbaudTop Skills: Financial analysis, budgeting, accounting
Minimum QualificationsEducationBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business Administration requiredEquivalent nonprofit financial management experience may be considered in lieu of degreeExperienceMinimum of 5 years of related experienceAt least 2 years in a supervisory or team‑lead capacityFamiliarity with Financial Edge preferredKnowledgeUnderstanding of federal and state funding regulationsStrong grasp of GAAPAbility to apply mathematical and analytical conceptsDemonstrated SkillsProficiency in Windows, financial software, and MS OfficeAdvanced Excel and Word skillsStrong written and verbal communication abilitiesExcellent customer service and organizational skillsAbility to exercise sound judgment in financial projectionsProven ability to multitask, prioritize, and lead staff effectivelyJob Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hartford, CT.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.75 - $27.83/hr.
