Job Title: Financial AccountantJob Description

We are seeking a dedicated Financial Accountant to handle day-to-day functions related to sales audit for assigned business units. This role involves managing exceptions in sales audit systems, resolving issues, and ensuring accurate daily sales releases. You will play a key role in supporting month-end activities and executing various controls to maintain financial integrity.

ResponsibilitiesClear exceptions in sales audit systems and investigate any issues such as dropped or missing transactions.Escalate sales audit system issues promptly for timely resolution.Support the closure of sales audit month-end activities in collaboration with supervisors.Execute controls as part of the responsibilities.Handle correspondence from stores, ensuring effective communication and timely resolution of queries.Prepare journal entries and perform high-volume weekly and/or monthly reconciliations between bank accounts and the financial system.Provide ad hoc reporting for departments such as Store Operations, Marketing, Taxes, and Finance, offering relevant data and insights.Create and maintain desk guides for departmental processes to facilitate team cross-training.Seek opportunities for process improvement in the sales audit process.Execute cash management requirements for opening/closing stores for assigned business units.Manage yearly deposit slips request for corporate banners.Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
Essential SkillsStrong analytical skills to analyze data, identify trends, and investigate exceptions.Attention to detail for reviewing data, reconciling accounts, and identifying discrepancies.2+ years of experience in accounting principles for understanding financial transactions.Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and V-lookups.Bilingual proficiency in French and English.Knowledge of AS400, PeopleSoft, Oracle, and retail industry.
Additional Skills & QualificationsWorking knowledge of the PeopleSoft accounting system and AS400 is an asset.Advanced PC skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.Experience in the retail industry.Strong communication skills for effective correspondence and collaboration.Problem-solving abilities to resolve complex issues.Time management and organizational skills for prioritizing workload.Integrity and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive financial information.
Work Environment

The position requires in-office work from Monday to Thursday, with Fridays working from home. The workday starts at 7:30 AM, and the role involves a 37-hour work week. You will be part of a 13-member team, closely working with 6 colleagues. The office is located in either Oakville or Calgary. The team culture is strong and collaborative, with frequent team events and a flexible manager who values independence.

This is a Contract position based out of Calgary, Alberta.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.03 - $26.44/hr.
