Field Services Technician, VPTO

**What’s The Role**
The primary function for this position is to perform installations, maintenance, repairs, and removal activities of the company’s products and services to the B2C customers within required Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) at the required level of quality and within the stipulated time.
**What You´ll Do**
1. Performs routine checks and troubleshoots the plant through the distribution cable to the node to restore customer service.
2. Must have the ability climb poles, ladders (18 to 30 feet) and operate aerial lifts above ground, as determined by the system's requirements.
3. Surveys the plant to ensure service availability to potential customers.
4. Performs underground location of existing plant using system prints and cable locating equipment to prevent cable damage and service interruption.
5. Must have the ability to read general system layouts from blueprints and maps.
6. Responds to and repairs service interruptions during regular business hours, shift work or when "on-call" as required.
7. Normal work shift may include evenings and/or weekend equating to 8-hour days for 5 days a week.
8. Must be available to work overtime including weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
9. Performs Cumulative Leakage Index (CLI) ride-out and track and repair leakage in accordance to Broadcasting Commission and Spectrum Management regulations.
10. Performs construction and construction maintenance duties such as: splices aerial/underground cable and equipment to build or restore line plant to system specification; splices and activates new line plant as required.
11. Repairs and/or replace damaged aerial/underground plant; and inspects, repairs and/or replaces power supplies, as necessary.
12. Must comply with safety procedures and requirements.
13. During normal day-to-day activities: clean, maintain and stock vehicle and equipment to be prepared for daily responsibilities.
14. Complete daily work order for each job by close of assigned duty.
15. Reports need for vehicle repair or service when required and/or prescribed; and reports any accidents/ incidences, losses, injuries, or property damage to supervisor and/or customer.
16. Drives company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner.
17. Reviews all requested services with the customer to ensure understanding and agreement.
18. Works in crawl spaces, attics, and permit required confined spaces.
19. Exposure to moderate noise level.
20. Troubleshoots the forward and return path in the drop from the tap to the customer's equipment for multiple services.
21. Must possess the ability to prioritize and organize effectively.
22. Inspects existing ground to ensure compliance with Flow’s requirements; make referral for new ground as required to protect employees, customers, and equipment from damage.
23. Must be able to work while standing 50-70% of the time.
24. Works within manufacturer's rated weight capacity for all equipment, including but not limited to ladders and aerial lifts.
25. Determines acceptability of video, data, and voice services by reviewing television picture quality and PC and modem connection following any installation or work on cable services to provide the best possible service for the customer.
26. Educates the customer on the service when required.
27. Provides information on available services to new and existing customers to sell additional services and attempt to upgrade existing services.
28. Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance.
29. Will be required to successfully complete training facilitated by the company or contractors of the company.
30. Applies knowledge and skills of training on the job to prepare for transition to the next level.
31. Performs other duties as requested by supervisor to achieve departmental goals and objective
**Knowledge & Experience**
+ **Experience**
+ Possesses: knowledge of Flow’s products and services, basic knowledge of telecommunications system operations.
+ Must have knowledge of computers
+ Required Training/Licenses/Certifications: Certified Network Technician Level 1
+ Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
+ Proven ability to lead
+ Ability to identify existing copper cable and fibre infrastructure
+ Previous pole climbing experience adhering to safety standards
+ Other professional qualifications /certifications **Skills/Competencies**
+ Must have broad knowledge of different access network technologies, including coaxial RF (Radio Frequency) distribution, Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON), Fiber To The Home (FTTH), Optical Time-Domain Reflecto-meter (OTDR) systems, Coaxial Noise Detection and Measurement, Spectrum Analyzers.
+ Must possess the ability to use basic and advanced cable test equipment.
+ Must be able to lift and carry loads up to 100 lbs.
+ Must have strong computer literacy, and be proficient in Windows, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel, Project, Google Earth, and Geographical Information System (GIS) systems and data.
+ Must have demonstrated problem solving skills and possess ability to work nights and weekends.
+ Must be able to communicate effectively with internal and external contacts, including customers. **Qualifications**
+ High school diploma or equivalent
+ 5 years’ experience in cabling and electrical installations
+ Knowledge of basic electrical standards.
+ Must possess knowledge of basic mathematics to calculate signal levels loss/gains.
