Johnson Service Group, a nationally recognized staffing firm, is seeking a Field Service Technician on behalf of our large service client near Columbia, SC.
Overview
The EG Field Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and overhauling customer and company power generation equipment, including CAT diesel and natural gas engines. This role supports customer sites by troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems, ensuring reliable operation, and delivering high-quality service in the field.
Responsibilities
Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of engines, generators, transfer switches, and switchgear (up to 480V)
Diagnose equipment failures using technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic software
Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble components following CAT guidelines
Order correct replacement parts and complete service documentation accurately and timely
Test and adjust equipment prior to return to service or delivery
Maintain service truck, tools, and a professional appearance
Follow all safety policies and promote a safe work environment
Provide after-hours support when needed to meet customer demands
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Preferred: 5+ years power generation/electrical experience; 3+ years with CAT or similar engines
Experience with CAT SIS or comparable diagnostic software preferred
Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently in the field
Ability to work in fast-paced environments and meet customer service expectations
