Field Service Apprentice

This role requires the candidate to work onsite at our customer location. To provide onsite customer support, the candidate must be willing to work in the Newfoundland, Canada area.

In this role, the Field Service Apprentice will observe and perform various equipment service processes and procedures to drive customer satisfaction and ensure proper functionality across multiple GE HealthCare service modalities. This position is part of GE HealthCare Canada’s two‑year Service Apprenticeship Program (CSAP) designed for recent graduates interested in launching a career in healthcare technology.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

Under supervision, responsibilities may include:

Work within hospital and clinical environments to evaluate and troubleshoot diagnostic imaging equipment and assist with repairs.

Perform Preventative Maintenance on designated imaging systems.

Conduct safety and environmental inspections, ensuring compliance with GE HealthCare standards, Canadian regulations, and customer site requirements.

Complete all required service, maintenance, and repair documentation according to hospital protocols and GE HealthCare policies.

Maintain ongoing communication with customers to ensure issue resolution, follow-up, and high customer satisfaction.

Learn proper care, calibration, and use of tools and test equipment.

Enhance technical knowledge of current standards, codes, and practices related to medical equipment service.

Work alongside experienced Field Service Representatives on progressive troubleshooting, repairs, and installation support.

Participate as a member of the local service team to provide efficient service delivery across assigned accounts.

Complete all required Quality, Compliance, and Safety training on time.

Identify and escalate any customer quality or compliance concerns immediately.

Adhere to GE HealthCare’s Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Policy, and all applicable Canadian laws and regulations.

PROGRAM TRAINING COMPONENTS

Technical Training at the GE HealthCare Institute in the United States (typically 5–10 weeks over 18 months).

Soft Skills Training delivered by professional consultants, including:

Communication & Customer Interaction

Negotiation Skills

Problem-Solving & Decision-Making

Mentorship & Field-Based Learning with experienced GE HealthCare service professionals.

Assignments and development activities designed to build both technical and professional capability.

A company car is provided for this field‑based role.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Recent graduate (within the last 2 years) or final‑year student with a College Diploma or University Degree in Electronics, Biomedical Engineering Technology, IT/Networking, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.

Ability to interpret diagrams/schematics and perform troubleshooting on electronic or mechanical systems.

Must hold a valid full Canadian provincial driver’s license at the time of application.

Must be eligible for international travel, including to the United States.

Required documentation includes a valid Canadian passport, for cross-border business travel at the time of application

Legal authorization to work in Canada.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working with mechanical, electromechanical, or electronic equipment.

Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues clearly.

Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships.

Experience working in a team-based, service-oriented environment.

Knowledge of digital electronics, electrical circuits, or imaging technology.

Comfortable working in hospital environments and on medical equipment.

Ability to lift up to 35 lbs, work in varied physical positions, and meet hospital access requirements (immunization, background checks, etc.).

Candidates living locally in Newfoundland are strongly preferred.
