Job Title: Field Research Assistant

Job Description

As a Field Research Assistant, you will plan and execute the safe and efficient day-to-day management of phenotypical research at the North Platte Nebraska Research Center. You will be involved in all phases of trial execution from planning, planting, assessments, to harvest to meet data quality goals. The ideal candidate will have an enthusiasm for collaborating in a team environment where evolving technologies in agriculture are driving product development. This position will be on-site at the North Platte, NE location.

ResponsibilitiesAssist in data collection for phenotypical testing programs ensuring high-quality data is collected.Monitor trial locations to assess and communicate appropriate management practices when needed.Lead in site safety culture and ensure adherence to safety standards.Maintain or improve efficient daily and seasonal workplace operations.Operate agricultural equipment such as combines and tractors while observing all safety requirements.Participate in planting crew operations, harvesting, plot maintenance, hoeing, and backpack spraying.Collect data in the field using an iPad.Drive a pickup and other farming equipment approximately 25% of the time.Essential SkillsMinimum of High School Diploma/GED.2-3 years of agricultural experience preferred.Detail-oriented with an understanding of the safety risks of operating farm equipment.Strong problem-solving skills, strategic analysis, and communication skills.Why Work Here?

Work Environment

The work environment includes working on-site at the North Platte, NE Research Center, with shift times from 7:00am to 3:30pm. This role requires working 40 hours per week with occasional Saturdays and overtime depending on the season. Exposure to common allergens such as plants, insects, pollen, and herbicides is expected. Travel is required in April, May, June, and October, with 2-3 nights per week in NW Kansas, NE Colorado, and other locations. The position involves driving pickups, tractors, combines, and moving vans.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $21.50/hr.
