Position Summary:The Field Operations Assistant will be supporting the preparation, maintenance, and daily operations of the playing surface at ONT Field. Working under the direction of the Grounds Superintendent and Field Operations Manager, this hands-on role ensures the field is safe, game-ready, and maintained to PDL standards for baseball games, practices, and special events. This position is ideal for individuals pursuing a career in sports turf management, field operations, or stadium operations and provides direct, practical experience in professional baseball field maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:Field Preparation & Maintenance
Assist with daily baseball field preparation including infield dragging, edging, mowing, watering, and moisture management of clay and turf areas.Maintain, repair, and condition the pitcher’s mound, home plate, bullpen areas, infield skin, and warning track under supervision.Assist with batting practice setup and breakdown.Chalk and paint field markings in accordance with PDL standards.Perform postgame field repair including raking, leveling, divot repair, and debris removal.Complete tasks assigned during games such as minor repairs, general housekeeping, or eventEquipment Operation & Maintenance
Operate maintenance equipment (mowers, tractors, drag mats, aerators, utility vehicles) under supervisionClean, organize, and perform minor maintenance on field tools and equipmentEnsure tools and supplies are stored properly and safely after useGame-Day & Event Support
Assist with batting practice setup and field transitionsSupport setup and teardown for concerts, community events, and non-baseball sports activitiesTransport tools and materials across the stadium using carts and utility vehiclesTarp & Weather Response
Serve as part of the tarp crew for rapid field covering during rain delaysInstall and remove mound/plate tarps and bullpen protectionAssist with post-rain field recovery using drying agents and turf management techniquesCollaboration, Safety & Communication
Work as part of a collaborative grounds crew to execute daily operational tasksFollow all safety protocols when handling tools and operating vehiclesReport field issues or equipment malfunctions promptly to the supervisorHelp coordinate maintenance schedules to ensure field readiness for each eventInventory & Materials Management
Assist with inventory and restocking of field supplies (chalk, clay, fertilizers, etc.)Help maintain organized and clean storage areas for field operations materialsQUALIFICATIONSEducation & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent requiredPrior experience in sports turf, landscaping, or facility operations preferredFamiliarity with baseball field care, event support, or stadium operations a plusSkills & Attributes
Ability to operate mowers, tractors, sprayers, and hand toolsBasic understanding of turf and infield maintenance techniquesComfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditionsDependable, detail-oriented, and capable of following detailed instructionsAble to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasksStrong communication skills and a team-oriented mindsetSchedule Requirements

Tasks are performed with moderate supervision without assistance for 40% of the workday; tamping, stooping, bending and lifting at least 75 lbs. Walking for long distances for more than 50% of workday. This position may require work inside or outside of the building, as needed by events.
Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays, in addition to normal business hours. Employees may be scheduled to work until 12:00am or later. Must be able to pass background.
