About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Senior Biologist to join a specialized environmental consulting practice providing biological and regulatory services for public and private sector clients throughout California. This role is ideal for a biologist who combines strong technical expertise with project leadership, client coordination, and regulatory proficiency. The Senior Biologist will lead biological studies, manage projects, and support environmental compliance efforts related to land development, infrastructure, and natural resource management.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead and conduct biological field surveys, including:Flora and fauna surveysHabitat assessmentsFocused and protocol-level special-status species surveysPrepare and review technical documents such as:Biological Constraints AnalysesBiological Resources Technical ReportsMitigation and Monitoring PlansCEQA and NEPA biological sectionsServe as Project Manager or Task Lead on biological projectsCoordinate with planners, engineers, regulatory agencies, and clientsEnsure compliance with state and federal regulations including:California Endangered Species Act (CESA)Federal Endangered Species Act (ESA)Clean Water ActCEQA / NEPASupport permitting with agencies such as CDFW, USFWS, and USACEProvide mentoring and technical guidance to junior biologistsAssist with proposal preparation, scheduling, and budgeting as neededRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field(Master’s degree preferred)8–15+ years of professional biological consulting experience in CaliforniaDemonstrated expertise in:California flora and faunaSpecial-status species surveysRegulatory permitting and agency coordinationStrong technical writing and report preparation skillsAbility to manage multiple projects and meet deadlinesWillingness and ability to conduct fieldwork, including variable terrain and conditionsValid California driver’s licensePreferred QualificationsExperience with linear infrastructure, land development, or public works projectsCertifications or permits for specialized species surveysExperience serving as a client point of contactFamiliarity with biological mitigation design and implementationWhat We OfferCompetitive salary based on experienceFlexible work environment with hybrid optionsOpportunity to lead meaningful environmental and conservation projectsCollaborative team culture with a focus on technical excellenceComprehensive benefits package including health insurance, PTO, and retirement optionsJob Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ontario, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $51.44 - $62.50/hr.
