About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Biologist to join a specialized environmental consulting practice providing biological and regulatory services for public and private sector clients throughout California. This role is ideal for a biologist who combines strong technical expertise with project leadership, client coordination, and regulatory proficiency. The Senior Biologist will lead biological studies, manage projects, and support environmental compliance efforts related to land development, infrastructure, and natural resource management.
Key Responsibilities
+ Lead and conduct biological field surveys, including:
+ Flora and fauna surveys
+ Habitat assessments
+ Focused and protocol-level special-status species surveys
+ Prepare and review technical documents such as:
+ Biological Constraints Analyses
+ Biological Resources Technical Reports
+ Mitigation and Monitoring Plans
+ CEQA and NEPA biological sections
+ Serve as Project Manager or Task Lead on biological projects
+ Coordinate with planners, engineers, regulatory agencies, and clients
+ Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations including:
+ California Endangered Species Act (CESA)
+ Federal Endangered Species Act (ESA)
+ Clean Water Act
+ CEQA / NEPA
+ Support permitting with agencies such as CDFW, USFWS, and USACE
+ Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior biologists
+ Assist with proposal preparation, scheduling, and budgeting as needed
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field
+ (Master’s degree preferred)
+ 8–15+ years of professional biological consulting experience in California
+ Demonstrated expertise in:
+ California flora and fauna
+ Special-status species surveys
+ Regulatory permitting and agency coordination
+ Strong technical writing and report preparation skills
+ Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
+ Willingness and ability to conduct fieldwork, including variable terrain and conditions
+ Valid California driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience with linear infrastructure, land development, or public works projects
+ Certifications or permits for specialized species surveys
+ Experience serving as a client point of contact
+ Familiarity with biological mitigation design and implementation

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ontario, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $51.44 - $62.50/hr.
