Responsibilities
The FEES Endoscopist Speech-Language Pathologist (FEES SLP) organizes and provides advanced speech-language pathology services with a specialized focus on Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES). This position facilitates high-quality, patient-centered rehabilitation services and supports integration of instrumental dysphagia assessment across care settings. The FEES SLP is responsible for assessing the need for and administering individualized evaluation and treatment programs designed to restore, reinforce, and enhance swallowing function.
The FEES SLP identifies the need for, and makes referrals to, other disciplines to ensure comprehensive patient care. In addition, this role provides education and training to patients, caregivers, and interdisciplinary team members regarding swallowing safety, compensatory strategies, and the role of FEES in promoting functional independence. By delivering accurate diagnostic assessments, evidence-based interventions, and high-quality documentation, the FEES SLP upholds the highest standards of clinical care and contributes to improved outcomes and quality of life for patients.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Provides direct patient care, including completion of Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) for patients as clinically indicated.
Adheres to established clinical protocols, procedures, and evidence-based practice standards to ensure accurate, safe, and compliant FEES delivery.
Assumes responsibility for timely documentation, follow-up, and completion of all required reports and forms related to FEES evaluations.
Monitors the quality and compliance of clinical services delivered, ensuring that an ethical, evidence-based, and patient-centered product is consistently provided.
Follows established cleaning, high-level disinfection, and infection control protocols for endoscopic equipment in strict accordance with manufacturer instructions, company policy, and regulatory standards to ensure patient and staff safety.
Assumes responsibility for proper handling, storage, ordering of supplies, and care of endoscopic equipment, reporting any malfunction, damage, or safety concerns promptly.
Supports referral generation by auditing dysphagia evaluations and assisting SLPs in identifying appropriate patients for FEES, providing education and guidance as needed.
Participates in clinical and operational opportunities (e.g., grand rounds, case reviews, office hours, peer mentoring) to support clinical growth and knowledge-sharing across sites.
Collaborates with Directors of Rehab (DORs), Senior SLPs, and interdisciplinary teams to promote the integration of FEES into the overall rehabilitation plan of care.
Provides training, education, and mentorship to therapy staff, patients, caregivers, and facility personnel regarding swallowing safety, compensatory strategies, and the clinical impact of FEES.
Makes appropriate referrals to other disciplines to address the comprehensive needs of patients.
Assists in clinical development and growth of staff through coaching, mentoring, and participation in student/mentor programs.
Conducts re-examinations as needed to modify treatment plans, ensuring continuity of care and appropriate progression of therapy.
Supervises CFYs, temporary licensees, students, and/or support personnel, as applicable, in accordance with state licensure and professional standards.
Ensures accountability to established care delivery standards, ethical guidelines, and compliance with regulatory requirements (ASHA, Medicare, third-party billing, HIPAA, and company policy).
Maintains ongoing competency in FEES through continuing education, active participation in competency assessments, and adherence to ASHA and organizational standards of practice.
Monitors patients during FEES for signs of distress or adverse events, ensuring immediate response to safety concerns and proper documentation of any incidents.
Completes travel between assigned sites of service in an efficient and professional manner, ensuring punctuality and readiness for scheduled evaluations.
Demonstrates efficiency in route planning and scheduling to maximize clinical productivity while minimizing unnecessary travel.
Participates in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and data monitoring activities to evaluate service efficiency, capture opportunities, and improve patient outcomes.
Puts patient service first, ensuring that patients and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere that recognizes individual needs and rights.
Promotes Powerback Rehabilitation products and services whenever possible.
Develops and maintains positive relationships with facility management, nursing, and interdisciplinary teams as a representative of Powerback Swallow Solutions.
Provide mobile FEES services by traveling to and between assigned sites of service to perform FEES evaluations in accordance with scheduling and operational needs, including transporting and maintaining required clinical equipment in a safe and secure manner.
Performs other related duties as assigned to support clinical, operational, and organizational goals.
Qualifications
Must possess a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, Communicative Disorders or a similarly titled area that is consistent and acceptable to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
The Speech Language Pathologist must be licensed, certified or credentialed, as required in the state of practice.
Active ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) required.
Additionally, the FEES Endoscopist Speech-Language Pathologist (FEES SLP) should have a minimum of two years of direct patient care experience in an adult and geriatric setting; skilled nursing experience strongly preferred.
Posted Salary Range
USD $40.00 - USD $50.00 /Hr.
