As a General Facilities Maintenance Technician for R&D Labs, you will be responsible for the hands-on operation, repair, and maintenance of critical laboratory systems. This role requires strong technical expertise in HVAC, mechanical, and infrastructure systems, along with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a fast-paced research environment. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, support installation and repair projects, and ensure compliance with safety and performance standards. In this position, you will play an essential role in keeping specialized lab environments running smoothly, supporting both daily operations and long-term research success.
ResponsibilitiesOperate, maintain, diagnose, and repair facility systems in R&D lab environments, including HVAC, boilers, chillers, hydronic loops, VAVs, compressors, dryers, exhaust systems, and specialized lab equipment.Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and corrective repairs on mechanical, control, and infrastructure systems.Install, repair, and modify ductwork, piping, exhaust equipment, and HVAC components; perform brazing, soldering, and welding as needed.Monitor and troubleshoot HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance.Conduct inspections to ensure mechanical and electrical systems meet performance, safety, and compliance standards, with a focus on lab-specific requirements.Coordinate and supervise subcontractors during maintenance, repair, and installation projects.Support general facility maintenance tasks, respond to lab-related service requests, and adapt to evolving operational needs.Essential SkillsStrong technical skills in HVAC systems, mechanical repairs, and installations, with knowledge of relevant codes and safety regulations.Experience with BMS platforms such as Automated Logic, Siemens, or Ignition.CMMS experience or work order system knowledge.5+ years of experience in mechanical or facility maintenance within industrial, commercial, or R&D environments.Additional Skills & QualificationsAssociate degree or trade school completion preferred.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with strong problem-solving and organizational skills.Why Work Here?Once permanent, employees are eligible to purchase stock at a discounted price. Work EnvironmentThe role involves working at Research and Development offsite locations, including Palo Alto, Fremont, and Hayward, with a home location assigned. The buildings operate 24/7, with schedules primarily Monday-Friday, and occasional weekend work required. The facility is non-union, and employees enjoy a casual dress code, with some uniforms provided for engineers. Shift options include Wednesday – Sunday from 11 pm to 7 am or 8 am to 5 pm, subject to change.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
