Fabricator opportunity at Triad Fabricators

 

Triad Fabricators, based in Evansville, Indiana, was formed by consolidating three legacy fabrication shops; Traylor Bros. (founded in 1946), Sterling Industrial (founded in 1982), and Traylor Industrial (founded in 1984). 
 
Our focus is fabrication, which is what we do best, but as part of the Traylor Construction Group, we have the resources to see any project through from concept to completion. With both domestic and international experience, Triad has proven ability on a global scale. 

 

Position Summary

The Fabricator (Fitter) is responsible for the layout, fitting, and assembly of structural and miscellaneous metal components in support of Triad’s fabrication operations. This role ensures components are accurately prepared for welding in accordance with drawings, specifications, and quality standards, while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and teamwork.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Perform all job duties with safety as the primary focus. Read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings, weld symbols, and weld procedures. Measure, layout, cut, cope, and fit structural steel and plate components. Assemble components using clamps, fixtures, and tack welds to prepare for weld-out. Verify dimensions, alignment, and tolerances prior to welding. Identify and communicate drawing discrepancies or fit-up issues to supervision. Perform welding as required in support of production operations. Pass and maintain required company-administered weld tests. Inspect welds for quality, completeness, and compliance with specifications. Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, tools, and equipment. Complete required production and quality documentation accurately and on time. Participate in job-related training and skill development. Promote company values through professionalism, teamwork, and accountability. Follow all company safety policies and use required PPE. Mentor less experienced fabricators as skill level increases. Any other duties as determined by supervision or management.

Skills and Abilities

Strong blueprint reading and layout skills. Proficiency with measuring devices, layout tools, and fabrication equipment. Understanding of fit-up tolerances and weld preparation requirements. Ability to work effectively in a team-based fabrication environment. Strong attention to detail and quality. Ability to operate shop equipment such as forklifts and hydraulic lifts. AWS Weld Certification preferred. Welding experience required.

 

Education/Experience

F1: 2+ years of welding and entry-level fabrication experience or related trade background. F2: 2–5 years of fabrication/fitting experience in a fabrication shop or related field experience. F3: 5+ years of advanced fabrication experience with mentoring or leadership responsibilities.

Physical Demands

Ability to safely perform essential job functions consistent with ADA and applicable regulations. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs on a repetitive basis. Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and working in varied positions. Ability to work in a fabrication shop environment with exposure to noise, heat, and dust. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance. Must be able to drive a vehicle. Travel will be required to attend training and meetings. Must be able to talk, listen, and speak English clearly.
Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions and walk on uneven surfaces. Must be able to respond quickly to emergency situations and lift heavy objects.
