**Job Description**
The Fabricator is responsible for creating and constructing patterns and guides as templates for metal cutting, assembling, fitting, and welding metal sections and plates, and installing fabricated components in the final products. The Fabricator will be required to use a variety of light and heavy machinery to make necessary cuts and assemble the fabricated components into complete units.
**Responsibilities**
+ Create and construct patterns and guides as templates for metal cutting.
+ Operate light machinery, including brake presses, shears, cutting torches, and grinders.
+ Layout reference points and patterns on heavy metals according to the templates/blueprints.
+ Assemble, fit, and weld metal sections and plates to create complete units or subunits.
+ Install fabricated components in the final product.
+ Preheat workpieces to render them malleable.
+ Monitor the quality of fabrication and production.
+ Set up and operate heavy machine tools, such as radial drill, end mill, and edge planer.
+ Monitor materials usage and report on any material issues.
+ Maintain a working knowledge of changes in fabricating compliance, practices, and techniques.
+ Ensure accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects.
+ Maintain safe working conditions and adhere to Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
+ Follow all workplace safety policies and compliance regulations, and participate in identifying hazards.
+ Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
+ Comply with all rules, regulations, protocols, and established metrics.
+ Analyze blueprints and engineering drawings to assess materials needed and plan the sequence of tasks to cut metal.
+ Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
+ Effectively and efficiently prioritize daily work.
+ Accurately complete work orders and time cards.
+ Cross-train on other functions at the facility as needed.
+ Other assigned work as required.
**Essential Skills**
+ 5+ years of fabrication experience.
+ Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints or fabrication drawings.
+ Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
+ 3rd or 4th year schooling or red seal fabricator.
+ Experience with flux core welding, flux core mig, flux core welder, FCAW, SMAW, stick welding, stick weld, stick flux, stick mig welding.
+ Possession of a CWB ticket.
+ Experience with mild steel, fitting, blueprint reading, and grinding.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ Forklift experience.
+ Confined space knowledge.
+ Knowledge in class production.
+ Marine experience.

**Work Environment**
The work environment includes both indoor tasks in confined spaces and outdoor activities, sometimes at heights of up to 25 feet. Work involves using a wire feed welding machine and requires wearing steel-toed safety boots, welding helmets, and safety glasses/goggles. Basic tools like a chipping hammer should be owned by the candidate. The location is on Mitchell Island, Richmond, Canada, with shift times from 7:30 am to 4 pm, and overtime may be required. Travel to off-site locations may also be necessary.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, British Columbia.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
