External Communications Specialist

As the External Communications Specialist, you’ll support the external communications planning and execution across a variety of areas, including stores and services, digital and technology, social impact, real estate, human resources and more. In this role, you will work collaboratively with the external communications team to execute media relations strategies and foster relationships with select media members, external partners, and various internal stakeholders.
This role is hybrid, which means you will work some days at our corporate office in Richfield, Minnesota, and some days virtually from home or another non-Best Buy location. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process.
What you'll do
Support external communications efforts for various business teams, including stores and services, digital and technology, real estate, finance, legal, social impact, corporate responsibility and sustainability, human resources and more. Support external communications tactics, including writing content, creating media lists, preparing materials and more.Research and vet opportunities and speaking engagements for select executives.Assist with media relations work within local markets and local news outlets, including working directly with store leaders in need of media relations supportServe as a spokesperson for the company, as neededSupport a variety of communications functions while learning and growing your communications skills.
Basic qualifications
1 year of experience in communications, public relations or related field1 year of developing and implementing strategic communication plans1 year of writing and editing content for a variety of audiences and vehicles
Preferred qualifications
Ability to quickly and effectively build relationships with associates of all levelsExperience meeting aggressive daily, weekly deadlinesDemonstrated media relations experienceAbility to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment, working on assignments with overlapping priorities and timelinesAbility to partner with cross-functional teams to develop and deliver clear, consistent communicationsExcellent writing and editing skills
