Executive Director

The College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CRTA) is seeking an experienced and strategic Executive Director to provide organizational leadership and ensure the effective administration of the College. Reporting to the Board of Directors and working closely with the Registrar, the Executive Director plays a central role in supporting the College’s regulatory mandate, operational leadership, stakeholder relationships, and commitment to public protection.

This is a unique opportunity for a senior leader who is passionate about professional regulation, governance, and contributing to the health of Albertans through strong oversight of the respiratory therapy profession.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic & Governance Leadership: Support the Board and Registrar in advancing strategic and regulatory priorities through informed analysis, collaborative leadership, and proactive identification of emerging issues and risks. Regulatory & Operational Oversight: Oversee internal operations, support regulatory processes, and ensure all policies and systems align with the Health Professions Act and regulatory best practices. Stakeholder & Government Relations: Build strong stakeholder relationships, represent the CRTA in regulatory forums, and promote public awareness of the College’s mandate. Organizational Leadership: Lead and mentor staff while overseeing budgets and driving effective communication, change management, and continuous improvement.


Who You Are:

Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business, health administration, law, or a related field, with 7–10+ years of senior leadership experience in regulation, government, nonprofit, health, or public-sector environments. Proven experience supporting a Board of Directors, leading operations and staff, and interpreting legislation, developing policy, and implementing regulatory or compliance frameworks. Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, communication, and relationship-building skills. Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to public protection. Ability to lead through complexity and change, supported by strong organizational, financial, and administrative management capabilities.
