Purpose of the Role

The EWP Technical Design Representative is responsible for drafting, structural modeling, quantity estimates, and technical project support for EWP and Mass Timber in Multi-family and Commercial (MF&C) projects featuring Boise Cascade’s proprietary and third-party products. This role interprets structural and architectural plans, prepares takeoffs and shop drawings using both manual and computer-aided methods, and ensures the implementation of products in compliance with building codes and design standards. The representative provides technical recommendations to customers and collaborates with both internal and external teams to optimize product use. Additional responsibilities include delivering accurate installation plans, supporting the design community to influence future specifications, and ensuring high-quality solutions that drive business growth and meet customer needs.

Responsibilities 

Interpret and review structural and architectural plans, ensuring code compliance and value engineering. Proactively promote EWP, Glulam, and Mass Timber in MF&C segments through technical design. Create takeoffs, shop drawings, quantity estimates, and structural models for EWP and Mass Timber projects. Provide EWP alternatives to competing framing methods at early project stages. Conduct competitive analysis of alternative products. Organize communication between Designer of Record and MF&C Manager for specification and market solutions. Assist with AIA seminar training materials and technical presentations. Collaborate with the EWP MF&C Manager, Mass Timber Engineering, and sales teams to provide technical support and drive business growth across North America.

Location: May be located anywhere in the U.S. near a commercial airport.

Travel: Travel is approximately 10-15%, based on customer and business needs.

Qualifications         

Rep I Basic Qualifications: 

College degree or equivalent work experience in a related field; or EWP design and shop drawing experience. Minimum 5 years’ drafting experience and expertise in EWP construction. Experience with EWP in MF&C project management and/or sales (multi-family and commercial markets). Strong understanding of EWP, including design loads. Ability to read blueprints and produce EWP, Glulam, or Mass Timber take-offs for MF&C projects. Knowledge of BIM software: CADWORK (preferred) and Revit. Knowledge of LVL, I-joists, and Rim Board in MF&C construction. Proficient with Microsoft software platforms. Self-starter, team-oriented, with strong organizational, presentation, and communication skills. Effective interpersonal skills across all levels of management, personnel, external customers, and industry associations. Strong customer service mindset. Willingness to assume additional duties leading to growth.

Rep I Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to manipulate metadata (spreadsheets) from software models for MT product scheduling, manufacturing, and shipping. Ability to effectively communicate structural design concepts, wood framing practices, and construction terminology with a diverse range of professionals. Experience with Mass Timber and plated trusses.

Rep II Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural/Architectural Engineering or equivalent work experience directly related to the role. Minimum 8 years’ drafting experience and expertise in EWP construction. Proficient in BIM software: CADWORK (preferred) and Revit. Advanced competency in manipulating metadata from software models for MT product scheduling, manufacturing, and shipping. Expert with Microsoft software platforms. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills for all internal and external stakeholders. Experience with EWP in MF&C project management and/or sales (multi-family and commercial markets). Strong understanding of EWP, including design loads. Ability to read blueprints and produce EWP, Glulam, or Mass Timber take-offs for MF&C projects. Knowledge of LVL, I-joists, and Rim Board in MF&C construction. Self-starter, team-oriented, with strong organizational, presentation, and communication skills. Effective interpersonal skills across all levels of management, personnel, external customers, and industry associations.

Rep II Preferred Qualifications:

10+ years of relevant experience. 3–5 years’ experience with BIM software: CADWORK (preferred) and Revit. EWP and Mass Timber expertise.

EWP Technical Design Rep I:  $67,200 to $100,800 DOE

EWP Technical Design Rep II:  $84,000 to $126,000 DOE
