We’re looking for a detail-focused Estimator to join a tight-knit team at a family-run machine shop in Chicago. Specializing in custom, high-precision components for industries like food, aerospace, packaging and automotive, our company values craftsmanship, reliability, and people-first leadership. Responsibilities

Review technical prints and CAD drawings to determine dimensions, materials, and machining processes Generate labor, material, and machine time estimates for CNC and manual machining jobs Prepare detailed cost quotes for customers and sales reps, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness Communicate directly with vendors to source material quotes and assess lead times Decide whether jobs should be completed in-house or outsourced and coordinate accordingly Input all estimates and order data into the ERP system and maintain project tracking Issue and monitor work orders to keep jobs aligned with production timelines Keep technical documentation and project files organized for quick reference and traceability Act as a resource for internal teams with updates on quoting status and job progress

Requirements

4+ years of hands-on experience in a machining or job shop environment Ability to read and interpret technical drawings Familiarity with CNC lathes, mills, and manual machining processes Strong math and computer skills (Excel, ERP software, quoting tools) Experience working with metal and composite materials AutoCAD experience preferred; CNC programming a plus High attention to detail and accuracy in cost breakdowns Clear, professional communication skills with internal teams and vendors Prior quoting or estimating experience in a manufacturing setting strongly preferred
