Description
The City of Irvine seeks a seasoned individual for the role of Equipment Operator assigned to the Street Sweeping section. Under the direction of the Street Maintenance Supervisor and Lead Street Maintenance Technician, the Equipment Operator operates a variety of street maintenance vehicles and equipment.
This recruitment will establish an Eligibility List for the Equipment Operator position, which will expire on February 12, 2027.
Your Impact
+ Serve as primary residential street sweeper operator.
+ Operate a variety of assigned equipment such as street sweepers, dump trucks, water trucks, loaders, and other equipment.
+ Detects and reports equipment malfunctions and breakdowns.
+ Assist with homeless encampments cleanup and litter control.
+ Respond to emergency calls during normal work hours and irregular hours.
+ Maintain knowledge of small and medium power-driven equipment, safety practices, construction methods and materials, and traffic laws regarding equipment operation.

Minimum Qualifications
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ Two years' experience performing street sweeping, construction, and maintenance work involving heavy construction equipment.
+ Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
+ Possession of, or ability to obtain an appropriate valid California Class A commercial driver's license. To operate street sweepers and/or water trucks, the operator must have a minimum of a Class B license with air brakes and tanker endorsement.
Best Fit
+ Class A or B License is required to operate a street sweeper.
+ Two years of experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment vehicles, including street sweepers on residential streets.
+ Proven track record of situational awareness, good use of judgment, and demonstration of exceptional customer service.
+ Ability to work a flexible schedule.
