Job Responsibilities and Duties:\n

At Sibanye-Stillwater, the Environmental Specialist 1 or 2 is responsible for performing all aspects of sampling, monitoring, testing, recordkeeping, and reporting required to maintain compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations, and permits governing the groundwater, process, and surface water monitoring process(s) at both the Stillwater and East Boulder Mines. \n

The Environmental Specialist 1 or 2's primary duties are:\n\nFoster an inclusive environment that promotes teamwork, innovation, and actively seek feedback from the workforce for continuous improvements.\nFoster positive, cooperative relationships with other groups in the Company.\nPromote and maintain a safe work environment, safe work practices, and a strong safety culture.\nEnsure that Environmental Excellence is practiced with in area of responsibility.\nProvide technical support to assist operational personnel in the development of programs and projects.\nTrains and mentors coworkers, employees, and contractors on environmental standards as well as proactive safety. \nUnderstand costs associated with scope of work to ensure decisions align with business needs.\nAble to implement ground, process, and surface water monitoring systems including operations, basic maintenance, communication systems, and data entry analysis.\nAccountable for database for water quality data for groundwater and surface water monitoring. \nMonitoring and analyzing trends in site water quality performance.\nRecognizing, troubleshooting, documenting, and communicating issues related to monitoring wells and sampling equipment.\nInventory management of sampling chemicals, materials, and supplies.\nManagement, preventative maintenance, work orders, and repairs as needed.\nTechnical writing associated with operating manuals, SOP's, and reports.\nInteraction with surface and underground operations on ground and surface water quality related issues.\nAssist in implementation of improvements to water monitoring systems (testing & pilot studies).\nMaintaining operational records in accordance with company and department SOP's and Policies.\nComplete and document environmental sampling, monitoring, and data collection associated with Sibanye Stillwater's environmental programs including soil sampling, water monitoring, air monitoring, and others.\nConduct and document environmental inspections.\nEvaluate data and prepare operational reports and graphs, using knowledge gained from increasing experience.\nAble to develop and present to site leadership, corporate leadership, and other site(s) on specific projects or other environmental processes. \nOther duties as assigned\n\n

Qualifications and Skills:\n\nGood verbal and written communication skills. \nTechnical writing Skills.\nWillingness to work outside in varying weather conditions and underground on occasion.\nProven ability to work autonomously, as well as within a team-based environment.\nAbility to travel between mine sites daily to complete work scope. \nAbility to read, understand and follow Federal, State and Local regulations and permits.\nKnowledge of water quality sampling procedures and environmental compliance issues.\nProficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and database applications.\nExperience working within ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems preferred.\n\n

Understanding of MSHA regulations preferred.\n

Education & Experience \n

AS, BS, or Technical Degree in environmental, or related field preferred and\/or a minimum of 1 year of practical environmental experience related to environmental monitoring and sampling.\n
