Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Environmental Project Specialist to join our team! In this role you will get to work closely with a variety of professionals on multiple projects across a wide range of public and private sector clients.

What You'll Be Doing:

This is a role where you will be at times executing field-based projects including, but not limited to, site supervision of environmental remediation programs, the collection of environmental samples and data to support environmental site assessments (Monitoring programs, Phase I and Phase II ESAs, Excess Soil Investigations), and at other times performing project management, coordinating field investigations, and/or preparing reports for environmental site investigation (ESA), excess soil planning, and remediation projects on a variety of public and private sector projects.

The role will include training on Parsons and our clients’ Health and Safety programs and procedures, Parsons specific field investigation and documentation procedures, and the use of digital data collection software.

Your key responsibilities include:

Supervise subcontractors associated with environmental field programs, including Site Remediation programs (Environmental excavations and implementation of various in-situ remediation techniques), drilling programs, underground utility locators, daylighting of underground utilities, vacuum trucks, and waste haulers.Oversee health and safety for Parsons’ and subcontractor staff on remediation and environmental investigation programs.Complete monitoring and groundwater sampling programs utilizing a wide variety of field equipment and with support of our digital field data collection software.Soil and sediment sample collection, field screening, and documentation during drilling, test pitting and excavation activities.Soil gas vapour sample collection, including leak testing and documentation.Operation of various types of field monitoring equipment (e.g. GPS, data loggers, survey level, combustible gas meters, etc.).Work closely with project coordinators/managers, using your interpersonal and organizational skills, to communicate project data findings and timelines to ensure projects are completed on time and budget.Project coordination and technical support related to various environmental and infrastructure projects, including investigations, remediation design and excess soil planning, investigation and management.Project Management and Coordination:ESA and remediation related projectsTracking and maintaining budgets and project financesPreparing reportsPerform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

Diploma or degree in earth sciences, environmental technology and engineering applications, engineering or similar programs.2+ years of applicable field experience as a field technician supporting environmental assessment / remediation and/or infrastructure redevelopment projects.Experience with supervising drilling, collecting and logging soil samples, collecting groundwater and surface water samples, and overseeing remediation.Valid driver’s license and access to personal vehicle (in the event that Parsons supplied vehicle is unavailable).Excellent written and oral communications skills and ability to operate self-sufficiently and safely in the field.Process oriented, including adherence to rigorous client and Parsons process and policies including but not exclusive to reporting, health and safety, procurement, human resources and IT workflows.Track record of delivering high quality work products and attention to detail.Familiarity and understanding of key Ontario regulation (O.Reg. 153/04, 406/19, and 347) related to Brownfield development, excess soils and waste.This work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; lifting; recurring bending or similar activities so willingness to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions should be expected.The ability to work on out-of-town assignments for extended periods of time.Ability to effectively communicate with, coordinate and instruct subcontractors on project and health and safety requirements.Resourceful, quick thinking and the ability to solve technical and logistical problems in the field.

What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

Certified as, or ability to be certified as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T)Consulting experience at an engineering firm with specific experience with the applicable federal and provincial environmental laws and regulations within a Canadian (preferably Ontario) jurisdiction supporting contaminated sites projects with as a project manager or a technical designerExperience with Designated and Hazardous Substance SurveysExperience with soil gas sample collectionBroad environmental and engineering knowledge related to consulting project delivery.Technology/software savvy such as knowledge of databases, GIS, AI, and other software packages.Academic and practical experience with soil classification

Salary Range: $29.66 - $53.70
