Environmental Noise Intern - Environmental Services (Summer 2026)

Your Opportunity In this position as an Environmental Noise Intern, you will have the opportunity to work as part of our Environmental Services team supporting noise and vibration assessments for industrial, transportation, infrastructure, and energy-related projects. The role of an Environmental Noise Intern is to perform a variety of selected tasks and assignments to develop knowledge and skills within the acoustic discipline. Assignments will require good technical understanding of the basics of acoustics, physics, and engineering. Work performed will be under the direct supervision of an Acoustics Principal or Senior Associate. The Environmental Noise Intern will assist with a variety of tasks that may include environmental noise monitoring, data review, modeling support, technical calculations, report preparation, and participation in field programs for projects that are existing and proposed. Activities may also include opportunities for acoustic modeling, calculations, measurements, and site observations of projects that are existing or under construction. Your Key Responsibilities - Work closely with, support, and assist Noise and Vibration team members, - Assist in conducting environmental noise monitoring programs, including participation in field measurements, - Support noise impact assessments, including noise source characterization, data analysis, and documentation, - Assist with environmental noise modeling under supervision, - Help interpret applicable environmental noise guidelines and regulatory requirements, - Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, figures, and documentation, - Support and collaborate with the multi-disciplinary internal and external teams, - Contribute to the promotion of our health and safety culture. Your Capabilities and Credentials - Effective written and verbal communication skills - Solid foundation in acoustics, physics, and/or engineering principles - Working knowledge of basic engineering calculations and data analysis - Eager to learn with strong listening and critical thinking and problem-solving skills - Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the team - Ability to work under and meet tight deadlines - Ability to solve problems using sound engineering judgment, creativity, and innovation - Strong work ethic and motivation to learn - Proficiency in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite - Experience with data analysis, coding, or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Visual Basic, C) is considered an asset - Valid driver’s license - Commitment to a culture of safety Education and Experience Must be in the process of obtaining a bachelor’s or graduate degree in an engineering discipline, physics, or mathematics from an accredited university. A strong interest in environmental noise, environmental assessment, or industrial acoustics is required. Prior experience with noise monitoring equipment or modeling software is not required, but exposure to acoustics coursework or related projects is considered an asset. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
