Environmental Manager

General Summary

Job Profile Summary
This position is responsible for managing environmental programs within an assigned region, overseeing permitting and compliance processes, providing industry-leading expertise to support operational competitiveness, offering leadership on environmental matters in alignment with company policies, and collaborating across regions to provide assistance and conduct assessments as needed.

Essential Job Accountabilities

Obtain all environmental permits for quarry, sand, gravel, and asphalt operations to ensure regulatory compliance and enable future expansion for competitive advantage

Serve as the primary liaison with city and county officials to maintain compliance with land use permits and foster positive regulatory relationships

Coordinate with business unit personnel across multiple facilities to develop training programs that ensure adherence to local, state, and federal environmental regulations

Develop and maintain an environmental compliance database to streamline reporting, monitor permit conditions, and achieve full compliance across all worksites

Implement and manage an Environmental Management System (EMS) to align legal requirements, set environmental objectives, and maintain accurate documentation for accountability

Identify and monitor critical environmental issues to advise management on actions that strengthen the company’s reputation as an industry leader

Collaborate with environmental engineers, managers, and senior staff to design and execute a comprehensive environmental strategy that supports operational goals

Solve complex technical problems and develop innovative solutions to meet environmental requirements and minimize operational risks

Build and maintain strong relationships with public officials and community stakeholders to enhance the company’s reputation and influence regulatory perspectives

Support and mentor environmental staff to foster professional growth and create an engaged, high-performing workforce

Promote environmental awareness among employees by developing standardized procedures and leveraging EMS for strategic advantage

Prepare business units for internal EMS audits to ensure compliance with all internal and external standards

Mentor and collaborate with decision-makers across business units to integrate environmental priorities into operational strategies

Contribute to corporate-level environmental initiatives through active participation in the EMS committee to drive continuous improvement

Participate in project procurement processes to position the company as an environmental leader and secure competitive advantages in qualifications-based pursuits

May perform additional duties as needed from time to time to support environmental compliance and strategic objectives

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Wildlife Biology, Hydrology, or a related field is preferred

Work Experience

10+ years of related work experience

3+ years of management experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong understanding of federal, state, and local environmental laws, regulations, policies, and procedures

Proven written and oral communication skills to effectively convey technical and compliance information

Sound decision-making ability with experience balancing consensus and authority as appropriate

Experience in scheduling, coordinating subcontractors, budgeting, and cost control for environmental or construction projects

Ability to establish and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and represent the company in public forums

Proven public speaking and presentation skills

Proficiency in MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation.

Ability to perform in a high-production environment and respond quickly and effectively under pressure and tight deadlines

Strong leadership and team collaboration skills, with the ability to operate effectively within a matrix management structure

Technical writing skills for preparing inspection reports, compliance documentation, and other detailed summaries

Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of craft and management personnel to coordinate and complete environmental requirements
