Environmental Health and Safety Specialist
Position Overview
The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the facility operates safely, sustainably, and in full compliance with federal and state environmental regulations. This position serves as the plant’s subject matter expert for environmental compliance and chemical safety, overseeing programs related to air, water, waste, hazardous materials, and DOT requirements. The specialist leads permitting, reporting, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives while partnering closely with operations, engineering, and leadership teams to maintain a safe and environmentally responsible workplace.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and maintain the facility’s SDS and chemical management program.Develop and deliver training on chemical safety, PPE, environmental compliance, and related topics.Lead industrial hygiene activities, including exposure monitoring and hazard assessments for welding fumes, solvents, formaldehyde, isocyanates, and other airborne contaminants.Oversee the ISO Environmental Management System, including internal audits, corrective actions, and certification activities.Conduct environmental and 5S audits, track findings, and drive timely resolution of corrective actions.Support pollution prevention, waste reduction, recycling, and cost‑saving environmental initiatives.Lead environmental emergency preparedness and response planning.Provide technical guidance to plant teams on environmental requirements, permitting, and best practices.Support broader EHS programs, serve as backup to the Safety Engineer, and assist with audits, investigations, and special projects.Oversee hazardous waste management and bulk solvent operations in compliance with RCRA and DOT regulations.Perform additional duties as needed to support safe and compliant operations.Essential Skills & Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years of environmental experience in a manufacturing environment.Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Chemical Engineering with an environmental emphasis.Knowledge of environmental health, safety, hazardous materials, DOT compliance, and regulatory requirements.ISO audit training or experience (preferred).Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.Ability to work effectively across departments and influence safe work practices.Additional Considerations
Candidates with substantial, directly applicable manufacturing experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements.Must be able to meet the physical demands associated with plant operations and fieldwork.Work Environment
This role is based in an office setting with frequent time spent on the manufacturing floor. The position requires the use of respirators and adherence to specific safety protocols. Annual RCRA training is maintained through the HR training system. Standard work hours are Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with occasional flexibility for shift coverage or Saturday project work.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
