Job Title: Environmental Field Technician

Job Description

As an Environmental Field Technician, you will operate, monitor, and maintain landfill gas migration control and recovery systems, providing long-term post-closure care at closed landfill sites. You may also work on environmental pollution control systems such as Vapor Extraction Systems (VES) and Ground Water Pump and Treat (GWP&T). Reporting to a Sr-level supervisor, you will perform your duties in a professional, productive, and safe manner. This role will primarily service the Denver, CO area.

Responsibilities

Sample various test locations including wells, probes, headers, blowers, flares, and pumps.Record and analyze data, adjusting gas flow rates based on data review and consultation with supervisors.Operate and maintain analytical equipment, including calibration.Maintain daily field logs reporting data collected, field observations, and actions taken.Consult with supervisors and clients regarding field conditions and test results.Implement routine and non-routine repairs and maintenance to ensure systems are operating in compliance with prescribed parameters.Supervise and assist in required maintenance and repairs.Manage vendors and subcontractors for operating, monitoring, and maintenance of systems.Conduct on-site Health and Safety meetings and ensure standards are followed.Perform surface emission monitoring with air-monitoring instruments.Use tools, ladders, portable saws, and generators to repair or expand gas system piping.Operate backhoe and forklifts for non-routine repairs.Lift manhole covers and enter sumps for well measurements.Repair and manage leachate or condensate pumps.Complete site checklist and inform supervisors of any changes or concerns.Participate in monthly Health and Safety meetings and training.Prepare daily logs for work performed.Actively participate in the SAFE process, including project health and safety plans.

Essential Skills

2+ years of experience in civil construction or earthwork.Experience in Quality Control or Inspection work.Proficiency in Excel and Word.Willingness to work in the field 100% of the time.Ability to work long hours during summer (10-11 hour days M-F).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Prior QC or Inspection experience on civil construction projects.Experience in geosynthetics installation (High Density Polyethylene Geomembrane).Landfill construction oversight.Willingness to travel in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois, with potential for further travel.Surveying experience is a plus.Experience in soils testing, including Nuclear Density Testing and geotechnical sample collection.

Work Environment

The role involves working at solid waste landfill sites in the field 100% of the time. When not on-site, remote work is available. The position entails working on solid waste landfill construction projects across the Midwest, with projects lasting 2-6 months on average. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 10-11 hour days during summer, with weekends preferred.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Madison, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
