Environmental Field Technician
Job Title: Environmental Field TechnicianJob Description

A Fort Worth-based environmental and engineering services office is seeking an Engineering Technician to support both Air Permitting and Groundwater project teams. This role is ideal for motivated, hands-on individuals who enjoy fieldwork, problem-solving, and working independently in dynamic outdoor environments. The position involves performing landfill gas extraction system monitoring, environmental sampling, and system maintenance activities for clients in the solid waste and environmental industries. This is a field-focused position, with extended periods working outdoors and regular travel throughout Texas and occasionally to nearby states.

ResponsibilitiesConduct routine operations, inspections, and maintenance of landfill gas extraction systems.Diagnose and troubleshoot system issues to ensure proper performance and compliance.Perform surface emissions monitoring and explosive gas monitoring across active and closed landfill areas.Operate, evaluate, and maintain LFG flares, including performance checks and general upkeep.Pull, clean, and reinstall submersible pumps used in landfill gas and leachate collection systems.Inspect wellheads, valves, collection piping, and system components to ensure integrity and safety.Perform groundwater, leachate, condensate, and other media sampling following standard operating procedures.Accurately document field data, sample conditions, and chain-of-custody requirements.Calibrate, operate, and maintain all field instrumentation and sampling equipment.Essential SkillsEnvironmental scienceLandfill operationsLandfill gas systemsGas pumpsPump repairTroubleshootingGas monitoringInspectionRemediationGroundwater samplingLeachate samplingAdditional Skills & QualificationsExperience in construction, environmental fieldwork, or a related technical field preferred.Ability to travel as needed for up to 2 weeks.Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding field activities.Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.Flexible schedule to support field demands, sampling events, and system maintenance needs.Work Environment

The work environment is nearly 100% outdoors, primarily on landfill sites, with occasional office work for report writing. The role demands the ability to work safely and effectively in adverse weather, remote locations, and during extended field shifts when needed. The position requires a strong mechanical aptitude, technical troubleshooting ability, and a commitment to high-quality work. The candidate should have the ability to maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles responsibly, and an understanding of field materials, methods, and tools used in environmental and construction-related work.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Worth, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
