About the Role
We are currently seeking Entry-Level Distribution Engineers to support electric power distribution infrastructure upgrades and storm hardening projects across Florida. Initial assignments will support Duke Energy, with additional future projects for Florida Power & Light (FP&L), TECO, and other utility clients.
This is an excellent opportunity for recent engineering graduates looking to begin a career in electric utility distribution design and gain hands-on experience on large-scale infrastructure projects.
ResponsibilitiesSupport the engineering and design of electric distribution systemsPerform calculations and design work for:Replacement of deteriorating underground and overhead cableConversion of overhead lines to undergroundReconductoring existing distribution linesReplacement of aging utility polesComplete engineering calculations including:Pole structural and pole loading analysisGuying calculationsCable pulling calculationsElectric demand and fault current analysisProtective device coordinationPrepare and review design drawings using CAD and utility design softwareEnsure designs meet utility standards and quality control requirementsCommunicate with internal teams, utility clients, and customers as neededRequired QualificationsBachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil) from an ABET-accredited universityBasic knowledge or academic exposure to electric utility distribution systemsUnderstanding of fundamental engineering principles and theoriesStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work effectively with diverse teams and customer groupsSelf-motivated with strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to learnPreferred QualificationsEngineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or completion of the FE examExperience with utility distribution design (internship, co-op, or academic projects)Familiarity with Duke Energy distribution standardsCustomer-facing or leadership experience (retail, restaurant, hospitality, etc.)Experience with design and utility software, including:Bentley Open Utility Designer (BOUD)SmallworldMaximoMicroStationAutoCADSkillsPower Distribution EngineeringDistribution DesignElectrical DesignPole Load AnalysisCAD/DraftingQuality Control (QC)Why Join Us?Entry-level opportunity with strong training and mentorshipExposure to major Florida utility providersLong-term growth potential within the electric utility industryWork on essential infrastructure and storm hardening projectsJob Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Maitland, FL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $26.00 - $26.00/hr.
