The Role

The Application Architect is responsible for defining, governing, and assuring the end-to-end application architecture for a Smart Building / Smart District ecosystem. This role ensures that diverse building systems, IoT platforms, command center applications, analytics tools, and customer-facing applications are cohesively designed, integrated, secure, scalable, and aligned to business and operational outcomes. The Application Architect acts as the architectural bridge between business stakeholders, subsystem vendors, integration teams, and operations, ensuring a consistent and future-ready application landscape.

Key Responsibilities

1. Application Architecture & Design

Define the overall application architecture for the Smart Building ecosystem, covering:Command & Control systems (District Command Center, PSOC, NOC)Building systems (BMS, FAS, Access Control, Parking, Elevators)IoT platforms and device managementVideo, analytics, and digital twin platformsAnalytics, dashboards, and reporting platformsMobile and customer-facing applicationsDevelop logical and physical application architecture diagrams, including:Application interaction viewsData flow and event flow viewsDeployment and environment viewsEnsure alignment with enterprise architecture standards, security requirements, and smart city frameworks.

2. Architectural oversight across (but not limited to):

Building & Facility SystemsBuilding Management System (BMS)Fire Alarm System (FAS)Parking, payment channels, turnstiles, elevator access & visitor managementAccess control and biometric/facial recognition onboarding systemsCommand & ControlDistrict Command Center (DCC)Dock schedulerContact Center, PSOC, NOC applicationsPhysical command center systems and softwareIoT & Smart InfrastructureIoT platforms (e.g., AlphaX IoT Platform)Smart meters and meter data managementSmart poles and integrated devicesIoT sensors (multiple vendors)Device onboarding, lifecycle, and firmware managementVideo & AnalyticsCCTV cameras and Video Management Systems (VMS)Video analytics platforms (e.g., SenseTime)Building and operational analytics platforms (e.g., Honeywell Forge)Data, Analytics & Digital TwinDigital Twin platformsData ingestion and integration pipelinesBI and analytics platforms (e.g., Power BI)Operational and management dashboardsCustomer & Operations ApplicationsMobile applications for customers and operationsLocation-based services, district maps, directory and wayfindingRetail directory and wayfinding solutionsRoom reservation portals and end-user computing systems

3. Integration Alignment (Strong Collaboration with Integration Architect)

Work closely with Integration Architects to ensure:APIs, events, and data interfaces are consistent and reusableApplications are loosely coupled and avoid point-to-point dependenciesValidate application readiness for:API-based integrationEvent-driven architecturesReal-time and near-real-time data consumptionEnsure applications can integrate with:SAP and enterprise systemsMetering and billing platformsSecurity, identity, and access management systems

4. Governance & Vendor Coordination

Provide architectural governance over:Subsystem vendors (L2/L3 vendors)Application customization and configurationReview and approve:Application designsFunctional specificationsVendor solution architecturesEnsure adherence to:Architectural standardsSecurity and compliance requirementsPerformance, availability, and scalability targets

5. Security, Resilience & Operations Readiness

Ensure applications are designed for:High availability and resilienceSecure access and data protectionRole-based access control and auditabilityAlign application design with:Cybersecurity platforms and SOC requirementsMonitoring, observability, and incident management toolsSupport transition to operations, including:Application runbooksSupport models (L1/L2/L3)SLA and KPI alignment

Technical & Architectural Skills

Strong experience as an Application Architect or Solution Architect in:Smart buildingsSmart citiesLarge-scale IoT or operational technology (OT) environmentsHands-on knowledge of:BMS, VMS, access control, and building systemsIoT platforms and device managementAnalytics and dashboard platformsMobile and web application architecturesExperience with:API-first and event-driven architecturesMicroservices and modular application designCloud, on-prem, and hybrid deployments

Governance & Stakeholder Skills

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

7 to 10 years strong experience as an Application Architect or Solution Architect in:

Smart buildings

Smart cities

Large-scale IoT or operational technology (OT) environments

Hands-on knowledge of:

BMS, VMS, access control, and building systems

IoT platforms and device management

Analytics and dashboard platforms

Mobile and web application architectures

Experience with:

API-first and event-driven architectures

Microservices and modular application design

Cloud, on-prem, and hybrid deployments

Governance & Stakeholder Skills

Experience working with:

Multiple subsystem vendors

Master systems integrators

Operations and facilities teams

Strong ability to:

Translate business and operational requirements into application designs

Communicate architecture decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Govern vendor deliverables without stifling innovation

Preferred Qualifications

Thai and English fluency

Experience in large mixed-use developments (commercial, retail, residential, transport)

Exposure to district-level command centers or city operations

Familiarity with:

TOGAF or equivalent EA frameworks

Smart city reference architectures

IT/OT convergence environments

Experience in ASEAN or large public-private infrastructure projects is a strong advantage
