Overview **This position will be physically located in Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP** The Engineman is responsible for operating and maintaining all vessel machinery. Performs troubleshooting and repair of engines and ship systems. Responsibilities ** This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.** + Operate and maintain all propulsion and associated machinery and equipment on board the assigned vessel. + Identify and troubleshoot all minor engineering problems. Any major problem or casualty will be immediately reported to the vessel’s captain. + Assist in determining parts, supplies, and material requirements for vessel maintenance. + When underway, stand engine room watches to include monitoring running machinery, recording engine data and be alert for malfunctions, fire or flooding, man overboard etc. + Assist in ensuring all required engineering entries are properly recorded in the logbook. + Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications + Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required. + High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. + Experience + Experience in engine teardown and rebuilding or related experience preferred. + Skills + Excellent oral and basic English writing skills. + An ability and aptitude for marine diesel engine operation and repair. + Ability to be trained for proper response to emergency situations (ex: man overboard, fire, flooding etc.). + Additional knowledge/skill requirements may be required by assignment or contract. + Working Conditions: + Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit. + Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 130 degrees in the summer months). + Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well. + The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. + The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. + The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard about ambient noise level. + The worker is subject to vibration. Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body. + The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals + Physical Requirements: + Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. + Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents. + Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations.
