Job Description
The Environmental Test Technician will play a critical role in supporting in-house thermal vacuum (TVAC) testing for space-flight components, subsystems, and hardware. This role focuses on TVAC, with responsibilities including setup, operation, and monitoring of thermal vacuum chambers on-site. Additionally, the technician will support dynamic environmental testing activities, such as vibration and shock testing, executed through local external test suppliers. The technician will prepare hardware for shipment, support test setup and execution at supplier facilities, coordinate with test engineers and vendors, and ensure proper documentation and data return. Collaboration with test engineers, program teams, and external partners is essential to ensure environmental testing is executed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
Responsibilities
Set up, operate, and monitor in-house thermal vacuum (TVAC) chambers.Execute thermal cycling and vacuum testing for space-flight hardware.Support extended-duration test runs and off-shift test monitoring as needed.Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of thermal vacuum equipment.Prepare hardware, fixtures, and instrumentation for external vibration and shock testing.Support and coordinate dynamic testing at local supplier facilities.Assist test engineers with test configuration, data collection, and reporting.Maintain test documentation, procedures, and configuration control.Follow cleanroom and material handling protocols.Essential Skills
Hands-on experience with Thermal Vacuum (TVAC) Chambers, including setup, operation, and monitoring.Experience with thermal cycling and vacuum testing.2-5 years of environmental testing experience (5–10 years preferred).Experience supporting space, aerospace, or defense hardware.Comfortable working in test lab and cleanroom environments.Direct experience operating thermal vacuum chambers.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience supporting vibration testing (electrodynamic shakers, sine/random).Exposure to shock or dynamics testing.Experience working with external environmental test labs or suppliers.Familiarity with instrumentation such as thermocouples, accelerometers, and pressure sensors.Test troubleshooting and basic equipment maintenance.Cleanroom experience (Class 1,000–10,000).Experience with test software, data acquisition, or Python scripting.Work Environment
This position is within a smaller shop with a team environment. The company is a product-oriented space-technology firm operating in commercial, space, and defense markets. They provide rugged aerospace-grade data-acquisition and control systems for use onboard rockets, spacecraft, aircraft, and other remote platforms operating in extreme environments. The work involves cutting-edge technology for prestigious programs such as JPL NASA, MARS Rover, and Navy Defense projects.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pasadena, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
