The Engineering Technician is responsible for the effective, efficient, compliant, and safe operation of the power plant and its auxiliary systems and equipment. This role involves operating and monitoring plant systems to ensure compliance with all applicable permits, codes, and regulations while maintaining safe and efficient plant operations.
Responsibilities
+ Operate and monitor the status of all plant systems continuously to meet generating requirements.
+ Perform plant start-up and shutdown, routine maintenance, and repair of gas turbine/generation and ancillary equipment.
+ Carry out routine inspections, monitoring, and logging of operating components to ensure accurate, reliable operation.
+ Respond to alarms by taking appropriate corrective actions.
+ Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and de-energized electrical equipment, including gas turbines and auxiliary components.
+ Promote safety, environmental, and regulatory excellence, demonstrating leadership in shaping the plant’s culture.
+ Adhere to company policies and comply with all site-specific safety requirements and procedures.
+ Operate, monitor, and track normal operations of plant equipment.
+ Utilize plant operating manuals to shut down and start up plant equipment safely.
+ Test and treat water chemistry control as per written procedures.
+ Maintain timely and accurate recordkeeping of operating logs, timesheets, work orders, and other administrative documents.
+ Investigate and troubleshoot plant issues, providing feedback, analysis, and recommendations.
+ Participate in the administrative maintenance and upgrading of operating manuals, preventive/predictive maintenance procedures, and technical references.
+ Assist with the training of new and existing operators and other plant staff.
+ Support continuous improvement work systems by participating in team activities and sharing ideas.
+ Identify safety hazards and take corrective actions as necessary.
+ Attend safety meetings and training programs and participate in plant safety programs.
+ Ensure compliance with lock out tag out processes and work permit processes.
+ Complete plant operator training and maintain the plant in a neat and orderly manner.
Essential Skills
+ Extensive experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical/electrical equipment.
+ Five years of experience in gas turbine operations and maintenance strongly preferred.
+ Ability to read and interpret electrical/mechanical flow and instrument diagrams.
+ Knowledge of turbine instrumentation calibration, including various types of transmitters.
+ Experience with control systems and the ability to troubleshoot controls and logic.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Windows/Microsoft Office (Word & Excel).
+ Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ General Electric LM6000 turbine experience (or similar) strongly preferred.
+ Exceptional analytic, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
+ Ability to multi-task and take initiative as a self-starter.
+ Experience in a similar role within a smaller plant environment is beneficial.
Work Environment
This role is based in a peaker plant (natural gas) in Sylacauga, AL, involving work in both the control room and plant areas. The schedule is inconsistent, typical for any operator role within a power plant. The position offers a long-term opportunity and a nice change of pace for those coming from larger utilities, providing an engaging environment to grow quickly in the full-scale operation of a plant.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sylacauga, AL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $32.00/hr.
