In this position, you will serve as a County Maintenance Engineer for Wake County based in Franklin County in Bunn, NC. Your responsibilities include planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising and directing various aspects of Highway Maintenance operations including force account and purchase order contract construction. You will respond to inquiries from the public, DOT Management, Media, etc., regarding DOT policies and procedures, division projects, plans and proposed work. This position has Emergency Call Back status and must be able to respond to Highway emergencies and work during inclement weather events. You must have the ability to formulate a comprehensive highway maintenance program within limits of budget and data. You must supervise and evaluate the performance of other employees and must be able to effectively communicate and maintain working relationship with general public, local governments, fellow employees, etc. You must be able to operate a motor vehicle and make field investigations on uneven terrain, including steep slopes and work in extreme conditions such as ice, snow, dust, extreme heat and cold. Must be able to apply professional engineering skills and knowledge to difficult highway projects and problems.
