What you will have an opportunity to do:

Position Summary

The Engineering Manager is responsible for the overall maintenance, safety, and operational integrity of The Elms Hotel & Spa, a historic full-service hotel and spa. This role leads the engineering team to ensure all building systems, guest rooms, public spaces, spa facilities, and back-of-house areas are maintained to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and guest experience. The Engineering Manager plays a key role in capital planning, preventive maintenance, vendor management, and regulatory compliance, while preserving the unique character and historic nature of The Elms.

Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Management

Lead, train, schedule, and develop the engineering/maintenance team.

Establish clear expectations, provide coaching, and conduct performance evaluations.

Foster a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and service excellence.

Coordinate on-call coverage and emergency response protocols.

Maintenance & Operations

Oversee daily maintenance operations for guest rooms, public areas, spa, pools, kitchens, laundry, and back-of-house spaces.

Ensure timely response to maintenance requests and work orders with minimal guest disruption.

Maintain and operate HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boilers, elevators, fire/life safety systems, and other critical infrastructure.

Monitor building automation systems and energy management initiatives.

Preventive Maintenance & Asset Protection

Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive preventive maintenance (PM) program.

Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety risks, and capital improvement opportunities.

Protect hotel assets through proper maintenance, documentation, and inventory control.

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, fire/life safety, health department, and environmental standards.

Maintain accurate records for inspections, permits, certifications, and safety drills.

Lead safety training and ensure proper use of PPE and safe work practices.

Act as primary point of contact during emergencies and coordinate with local authorities as needed.

Capital Projects & Renovations

Assist with planning, budgeting, and execution of capital projects and renovations.

Coordinate contractors and vendors to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to brand and safety standards.

Support long-term facility planning while respecting the historic integrity of The Elms.

Vendor & Budget Management

Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, and warranties.

Solicit bids, negotiate pricing, and control departmental expenses.

Develop and manage the engineering budget, including labor, supplies, and capital expenditures.

Cross-Department Collaboration

Partner with Housekeeping, Front Office, Spa, Food & Beverage, and Events to support seamless hotel operations.

Communicate effectively with leadership regarding facility conditions, risks, and priorities.

Support special events, group business, and high-occupancy periods with proactive planning.

What are we looking for?

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum of 3–5 years of engineering or facilities management experience in a hotel, resort, spa, or similar complex facility (historic property experience preferred).

Prior supervisory or management experience.

Strong working knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boilers, life safety).

Demonstrated experience with preventive maintenance programs and capital project support.

Flexible availability including weekends, evenings, overnight, holidays
