We have an exciting opportunity within General Atomics - Electromagnetic Systems Group for an **Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Systems** , located in Rancho Bernardo, CA. This role involves the development and design of advanced power systems, including transformer design, motor controllers, power supplies, megawatt-scale inverters, and other high-performance components for Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch Systems (EMALS). The successful candidate will bring expertise in energy storage, power conditioning, and high-voltage applications as recognized within the industry. Under general direction with limited review, this position is responsible for applying innovative approaches to resolving complex engineering challenges related to power systems. Assignments are outlined in terms of overall objectives and reviewed largely at completion. The engineer will initiate project planning and develop innovative designs to meet goals, while independently performing challenging engineering work with clear expectations. Responsibilities include documenting findings, presenting technical results, and representing the organization as the prime technical contact on small contracts or single-component projects. **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:** + Perform detailed design of electric energy storage, electric power conditioning, AC and DC distribution, and analog and digital control systems for operating electromechanical rotating machinery in the 10’s of MW range. + Size, select and design capacitor banks, solid state variable frequency power inverters for induction motors, resistive energy rejection systems, protection systems and analog, digital and imbedded control systems. + Document design in specifications covering functions, requirements and design selections. + Prepare procurement and fabrication drawings. + Prepare and help execute test plans to verify compliance with requirements. + Present design and analysis with clarity for reviews and produce all documents to meet strict configuration management procedures. + Interface with systems engineers, sub-contractors, customers and other specialists. + Direct junior engineers and CAD designers. + Performs other duties as assigned or required. + Supports operation of engineering systems and documents any problems. + Troubleshoot conflicting design/development requirements, difficult coordination requirements, and special material requirements. + May represent the organization as the prime technical contact on small contracts or single component projects. + Maintains strict confidentiality of sensitive information. + Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. + Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices. + Performs other duties as assigned.
