The Endoscopy Technician is responsible for the preparation of instruments, set-up of procedure with all equipment necessary to perform any endoscopy procedure, and post procedure turn-over of equipment, room, and patient care assistance. These responsibilities include set up of correct equipment, procedural assistance under the supervision of the physician, proper cleaning and maintenance of endoscopes, and assistance with care of patient. Independent judgement is exercised under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse.\n

Roles and Responsibilities:\n
\n\nPlanning\n\nMaintains standards for the endoscopy patient following SGNA\/ASGE and CMC standards\/recommendations\nResponds appropriately to changes in patient needs during the procedure.\nAnticipates patient needs for each procedure depending on physician preferences.\nParticipates on care and maintenance of all scopes.\nKnowledge of equipment, cost, PAR levels, expiration dates.\nAssists department in maintaining appropriate supply levels.\n\n\n\n
\n\nImplementation\n\nAdministers optimal patient care by providing physician with appropriate equipment and supplies for each procedure.\nKnowledge and ability to apply proper handling of supplies and equipment necessary for all endoscopic procedures.\nAssist the nurse with completion of procedure.\nAbility to handle any variation in the plan of care in a calm, efficient manner.\nAssist with positioning of the patient.\nHelps out on other units of the hospital as the need arises.\nMaintains patient environment by stocking rooms and\/or cleaning of equipment as assigned.\nObserves and anticipates any changes in patient needs during the procedure.\nFollows plan of care in an efficient manner under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse.\nPlans for care directly related to each procedure.\nDemonstrates efficiency assisting with patient care such as lifting, transporting, and holding for treatment.\nCompletes a minimum of 4 hours of approved education in the field of endoscopy annually.\n\n\n\n
\n\nEvaluation\/Planning\n\nAnticipates needs for procedure.\nKnowledge of anatomy and physiology in relation to all performed procedures.\nKnowledge of role\/responsibility and expectations for procedure being done.\nParticipates with team in making sure that a Time Out was called before procedure begins.\nPlans and organizes to meet patient and unit needs within shift and beyond as necessary.\nAssist circulating nurse with surgical procedure set up.\n\n\n\n
\n\nPerformance Improvement\n\nParticipates with team in identifying specific unit problems and seeks resolution.\nCommunicates and promotes unit specific improvements.\nCompletes assignments as directed.\nParticipates in performance improvement activities.\nDemonstrates an understanding of quality data collection.\nPromotes TEAM work with all co-workers.\n\n\n\n
\n\nRisk Management\/Safety\n\nAnticipates potential and actual safety hazards and removes equipment from patient care area and initiates a computer generated work order.\nPractices universal precautions and infection control techniques in daily patient care activities.\nKnowledge of cleaning, reprocessing, and infection control for all equipment.\nMaintains a safe and clean environment for our patients, visitors, and staff.\n\n\n\n
\n\nInformation Management\n\nAccurately uses the hospital information system to enter and retrieve patient data.\nCommunicates messages promptly.\nCollaborates with Director and Team Leader on all equipment, inventory, and supply issues.\nAbility to input data into PACS.\nAssists with completing supply orders and maintaining supply levels for both store room and special order items.\n\n\n\n
\n\nJudgement\n\nAppropriately reports any incidents on the unit.\nDemonstrates positive attitude towards cross training.\nMaintains accountability for actions and following guidelines.\nTreats the people we serve as our guests.\nRespects the privacy and confidentiality of patients, visitors, and staff.\nPresent a professional image.\nUses the telephone professionally.\nListens to patients, visitors, and staff then acts promptly to address concerns.\nAnticipates what services and information people needs and takes action to provide it.\n\n\n\n

Required Skills and Experience:\n\nEducation - High School Diploma or GED\nExperience - Preferred; Willing to Train\nLicensure - Successful completion and maintenance of the GI Technical Specialist certification through the SGNA within 6 months of starting position.\n\n
\n

Preferred Skills and Experience:\n\n1-2 Years Experience Preferred\nExperience in the Healthcare Fields a Plus\n\n

Physical Requirements:\n\nGood dexterity and ability to stand in place for extended periods of time.\nAbility to lift up to 20lbs\n\n
\n

Location and Travel Requirements:\n\nOnsite at Cayuga Medical Center: 101 Dates Drive, Ithaca, NY 14850\nShift: Shift hours to fall between 0630 - 1800 Monday - Friday. There is a call component that goes with this position - call is rotated among staff and covers overnights, weekends and holidays.\n25% Travel can be expected in this role if coverage is needed at other locations\n\n

Pay Range Disclosure:\n\n$20.42 - $25.23 per hour plus benefits\n\n
