EMEA Sanctions Client Diligence Associate

Join the EMEA Sanctions Client Diligence Team responsible for ensuring the sanctions compliance of our clients to protect the Business.  

As an Associate in the EMEA Sanctions Client Diligence team, you will review a multitude of different clients across the firm. You will use your analytical skills, independent judgment, and adaptability to assess sanctions risk in a fast-paced, evolving environment. Job responsibilities

Review and assess sanctions risks presented under OFAC, OFSI, EU, and other EMEA sanctions programs in the context of client sanctions due diligence in both the KYC and significant transactions in Investment Banking and Corporate Finance. Ensure that any risk is appropriately mitigated, documented and addressed, partnering with relevant (often senior) stakeholders within the business and Compliance. Review and assess clients’ sanctions related events such as blocked or rejected transactions, activity permissible under license, voluntary self-disclosures, sanctions related enforcement action or significant negative media. Support the business, GSC and Global Financial Crimes Compliance in reviewing escalations to internal senior committees, ensuring sanctions risks are appropriately presented. Escalate significant sanctions risks to the EMEA Sanctions management team, relevant In-Country Compliance Officers, Line of Business Sanctions Officers, GSC and Legal as required. Maintain and develop a good working knowledge of OFAC, OFSI, EU and other EMEA sanctions programs in order to provide appropriate advice and direction to colleagues in sales, product development, operations and technology teams across multiple LOBs in the region, on sanctions related issues as it impacts their products and clients. Support projects to develop and improve team working practices and output.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

An analytical mind with a diligent attention to detail, able to assess risk and make sound independent decisions. A self-starter, able to work independently with minimal supervision, organize and prioritize their work and deliver results under pressure and to tight deadlines. A clear and concise verbal and written communicator, able to manage productive relationships with senior stakeholders in Compliance and the wider business. A reliable team player, with a strong work ethic, able to rapidly adapt to changing team priorities.   A strong controls mind-set, able to understand regulatory requirements and adhere to appropriate controls. Relevant experience of Compliance activities particularly in relation to AML/Sanctions. Knowledge of Investment & Corporate Banking, as well as Payments and Correspondent banking.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

Relevant experience of Compliance activities particularly in relation to AML/Sanctions. Knowledge of Investment & Corporate Banking, as well as Payments and Correspondent banking. Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) or evidence of comparable academic / work achievement.
