Job Description:

Field Technician IV

Under general supervision, install, maintain, and repair backup generator systems and associated electrical infrastructure at wireless communications facilities throughout the region. Ensure safe, code-compliant operation of all electrical systems supporting critical telecommunications equipment.

Qualifications

Required Certifications:

Valid Master Electrician LicenseValid driver's license with clean driving record

Technical Knowledge & Skills:

Expert knowledge of generator installation, operation, and maintenance (industrial-grade systems)Proficiency with electrical circuits, three-phase power systems, and automatic transfer switchesStrong understanding of National Electrical Code (NEC) and local electrical codesAbility to read and interpret electrical blueprints, one-line diagrams, and equipment schematicsSkilled in troubleshooting electrical systems using diagnostic equipmentMathematical aptitude for load calculations and voltage drop analysisProficient with hand tools, power tools, and specialized electrical testing equipmentMust be able to obtain and hold multiple state electrical licenses

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of electrical field experience requiredGenerator installation experience strongly preferredTelecommunications or critical infrastructure experience a plus

Primary Responsibilities

Generator Installation & Maintenance:

Install industrial backup generators at wireless communications sites, including fuel systems, exhaust systems, and electrical connectionsConnect generators to automatic transfer switches and facility electrical distribution panelsCommission new generator systems through startup, load testing, and integration with facility monitoring systemsPerform scheduled preventive maintenance on generator systems per manufacturer specificationsDiagnose and repair generator mechanical and electrical failures

Electrical Systems Work:

Install and repair electrical distribution systems, including circuit breaker panels, disconnect switches, and metering equipmentRun power supply wiring, cables, and conduit for new equipment installationsInstall and connect electrical components including motors, relays, contactors, and control systemsTest circuit continuity, voltage, amperage, and ground fault protection to ensure safe operationMeasure, cut, bend, thread, and install electrical conduit using industry-standard tools and techniques

Site Management & Documentation:

Respond to work orders and emergency service calls at remote telecommunications facilitiesConduct site inspections to identify electrical hazards and needed repairsMaintain accurate records of materials used, labor hours, and work performedPrepare time and material estimates for projectsEnsure work areas are clean, organized, and secure upon job completionMaintain inventory of tools, equipment, and materials

Safety & Compliance:

Operate all equipment according to established safety procedures and OSHA regulationsWork safely around energized electrical systems and telecommunications equipmentIdentify and correct unsafe conditions; report non-correctable hazards immediatelyFollow proper lifting, climbing, and confined space entry protocolsMaintain tools and equipment in safe operating condition

Collaboration:

Coordinate with site managers, telecom engineers, and project supervisorsCommunicate effectively with customers and stakeholdersWork independently with minimal supervision at remote locations

Equipment Used

Multimeter, megohmmeter, clamp meter, oscilloscope, and specialized testing equipment; soldering and termination tools; wire pulling equipment; pipe bender and threader; hand and power tools (saws, drills, impacts); trencher; concrete saw; extension ladders and scaffolding; company service truck or van.

Working Conditions

Physical Demands: Continuous walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Frequent heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs) and carrying. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions including overhead work, confined spaces, and around energized equipment.

Environmental Factors: Work performed outdoors and indoors at remote telecommunications sites in all weather conditions. Exposure to extreme heat and cold, noise, dust, and vibration. Work at heights on ladders, rooftops, and tower structures. Frequent regional travel required, including overnight stays.

Schedule: Standard business hours within rotation. Weekend work may be required.

The likely hourly rate for this position is between $38.25 - $51.75. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
