POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

JOB TITLE: MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIAN 

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

 

1.   GROUP: SMURFIT WESTROCK 

2.   DEPARTMENT:  MAINTENANCE

3.   IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR’S TITLE: MAINTENANCE MANAGER

 

I) BASIC FUNCTION:

 

The Electrician is responsible to install, maintain and repair all electrical apparatus within the plant.  Perform minor mechanical repairs and assist the mechanics as needed.  To support and help train other electricians as required.

 

II) SCOPE OF POSITION:

 

Position functions under the guidance of the Maintenance Electrician Lead hand but reports directly to the Maintenance Manager.  

 

Position requirements include a full understanding of all the machinery within the plant, as well as, good knowledge of trouble shooting techniques, problem solving and communication skills.

 

III) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Plant/Machinery Maintenance (35%)


 Ensure electrical equipment within the plant is regularly serviced and operating well 

 Operate necessary equipment/tools to perform the repairs

 Read electrical and mechanical blue prints to aid in the problem-solving process.

 Keep a log of repairs made to each of the presses

 Improvises acceptable electrical and electronic fixes to get equipment running properly


Trouble Shooting (30%)

 

 Respond to machine operators request for a work order by running the machine to determine electrical faults

 Read and understand blueprints, specifications, and manufacturers manuals


Preventative Maintenance (20%)

 

 Regularly clean/check all electrical equipment within the plant to ensure satisfactory operation and safety

 Participate on electrical inspections with Hydro Inspector twice a year

 Test electrical equipment for safety

 

Leadership & Communication (5%)

 

 Provide guidance and on the job training for other electricians as required

 Aid operators in basic trouble shooting of machinery

 Available for emergency repairs off shift hours (if necessary)

 

Install New Electrical Systems (5%)

 

 Follow prints designed by engineers for large jobs on equipment

 Make material lists, decide best format for installation and carry out installation according to Canadian Electrical Code for smaller jobs

Install electric and electronic wiring, conduit and other components as required 

 

SQF/Food Safety - 5%

V) HEALTH AND SAFETY

 

 Responsible to work in compliance with the provisions of the Health and Safety regulations

 Use and wear all protective devises/clothing as required

 Report to the employer/supervisor the absence of or defect in any equipment or protective devices

 Report to the employer/supervisor any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act or the regulations or the existence of any hazard which he/she knows.

 Mandatory participation in safety program – BGS, Concern Reporting, etc. see program list for options

 Strong knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code

 

V) REQUIREMENTS

 

 Minimum of grade 12 education – college education in electrical program preferred

 3-5 years' experience in manufacturing environment is required

Electrician license/certificate is required + successful completion of a complete apprenticeship program 

 Electronics and P.L.C. experience 

Complete understanding of CSA + Canadian Electrical Code, electrical standards and compliance

 Read and understand blueprints, specifications, and manufacturers manuals

 Experienced and skilled on all maintenance equipment an asset - Lathe, Welder, Milling Machine, Drill Presses, Cutting Tools

 Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required

 Good communication and interpersonal skills required

 Strong safety orientation – follows safety procedures (ie. Lockout) 100% of the time

 Lift truck license an asset.
