Electrical Power Systems Engineer - Houston, TX

This is an immediate, critical opening for an experienced Power Systems Engineer supporting the development of the world’s first commercial space station. This role is a new headcount addition driven by program demands as the team advances through key early design milestones.

Our client is currently nearing the System Requirements Review (SRR) and progressing through Architecture Definition, Requirement Definition, and Preliminary Design (PDR) phases. The team is facing novel engineering challenges within human-rated space systems, and they need an experienced technical authority capable of guiding subsystem development and supporting make/buy decisions at a pivotal moment in the program.

Position Overview

The Power Systems Engineer will serve as the technical authority for power subsystem architecture within the Avionics organization. This role covers electrical power distribution, component selection, fault management, subsystem design, and integration with software, ground controllers, and flight crew.

You will work closely with the avionics manager, suppliers, the flight software team, and operations personnel to architect, define, and deliver a safe, reliable, human-rated power system.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead the architecture-level design of power systems for a human-rated spacecraft.Define system requirements, preliminary designs, and subsystem architecture in support of SRR and PDR milestones.Drive make vs. buy analyses and collaborate with suppliers through inquiry, evaluation, and integration processes.Serve as technical authority during PDR, presenting system architecture and design decisions.Work cross-functionally with:Avionics team (electrical power, compute & networks, RF/comm, EMI specialists)Flight software team to integrate software-controlled power functionsGround controllers and flight crew on system operationsDesign and analyze systems for:Load Shedding strategiesFDIR — Fault Detection, Isolation & RecoveryHuman-rated fault tolerance and reliability requirementsUtilize tools such as PSpice and Altium for circuit and board-level modeling and validation.Support the integrated product development process, ensuring system-level coherence and traceability.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (required).15+ years of experience in space power systems engineering.Experience with human-rated aerospace systems strongly preferred.Deep understanding of fault tolerance, reliability, and safety-critical design for crewed spacecraft.Proven ability to architect complex power systems and guide subsystem development from concept through preliminary design.Proficiency in PSpice, Altium, and related electrical analysis tools.Experience working in or leading integrated product teams.Top SkillsPower system architecture design at the spacecraft levelHuman-rated aerospace systems engineeringFault management (FDIR), load shedding, and reliability engineeringSupplier evaluation and make/buy decision ownershipCross-functional collaboration with avionics, software, and operations teamsJob Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of League City, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75.00 - $95.00/hr.
