GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety (DFPES) is seeking an Electrical Plans Reviewer to evaluate building and electrical plans for projects statewide. This position works collaboratively with other reviewers to ensure electrical systems are designed to the currently adopted edition of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) and applicable state requirements.
The Electrical Plans Reviewer reviews plans and specifications for code compliance, identifies deficiencies, and coordinates with on-site inspectors to ensure approved plans are properly implemented in the field. This role supports consistent, safe, and effective electrical code compliance throughout the State.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
+ Responsible for electrical system plan review and assists with building plan, kitchen hood, and above ground fuel storage tanks review as needed.
+ Documents all reviews, inquiries, and variances.
+ Performs regulatory tasks within Agency programs as established by state and federal statutes, rules as adopted, model codes, and standards.
+ Provides education and enforces compliance.
+ Communicate via phone or email with design professionals, owners, contractors, and inspectors to ensure code compliant designs.
+ Train new employees in the plan review and inspection process, use of the records management system, and obtaining continued professional development.
+ Supports agency programs in various manners including written correspondence, presentations, public speaking, and maintaining databases.
+ Maintains records and equipment and travels responsibly throughout the State.
+ Serves as a witness during hearings as requested.
+ Manages plan review priorities and meets the required review deadlines.
+ Represents the agency to the public.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to applicants with certification as a certified electrical plans examiner through the International Code Council (ICC) or equivalent certifications acceptable to The Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety (DFPES).
** The agency requires applicants to be a Wyoming-licensed Master Electrician or possess the qualifications necessary to obtain a Wyoming Master Electrician license. The selected candidate must obtain a Wyoming Master Electrician license and International Code Council (ICC) Electrical Plans Examiner certification within one year of the date of hire.
KNOWLEDGE:
+ Knowledge of electrical codes, standards, statutes, rules, and regulations, including their intent and interpretation as they relate to public safety.
+ Ability to read and interpret building and electrical plans in order to effectively communicate with construction project managers, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders.
+ Strong time management and organizational skills that support efficiency and productivity, with the ability to independently develop and manage work schedules.
+ Effective written, verbal, and nonverbal communication skills, including the ability to interact with difficult individuals in stressful situations through written documentation or face-to-face communication, as well as participate in public speaking or presentations when required.
+ Proficiency in accessing and utilizing internet-based information and a variety of software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Workspace. Ability to learn job specific programs including: ImageTrend, Bluebeam Revu.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Experience:
0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Inspection) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Inspection Specialist II
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Inspection) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Inspection Specialist II

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Occasionally works in hazardous conditions.
Possible travel and overnight stays if needed.
