Electrical or Mechanical Skilled Trades Program

Summary:  Reporting to the Maintenance Team Leader, this position is geared for recent High School graduate who know they would like to enter into the skilled trades. The skilled trade mentee's primary responsibility will be to shadow a technician who is maintaining and repairing the production equipment. Mentee will also attend school earning a certificate in their related field of study. The mentee will develop skills to implement maintenance programs necessary to ensure the short-term and long-term reliability of the equipment, as well as learn to lead the effort to optimize maintenance costs, maximize equipment availability and reduce unsafe conditions.

Applications will be taken through March 31st, 2026.

Selected individuals will be notified in late April.  

Day to Day:

Inspect, troubleshoot, repair and/or replace mechanical components such as motors, reducers, drive chains, hydraulic and/or pneumatic components in manufacturing equipment.Learn to plan, implement and maintain preventative maintenance program on engines, motors, pumps, pneumatic tools, hydraulics, conveyor systems and production machines in order to improve reliability.Perform routine, emergency, and preventive maintenanceStudy equipment manuals to develop audit items and preventative maintenance schedule.Shadow basic welding, fabricating fixtures, jigs, guarding, etc. as needed.Install or assist in the installation of new equipment, including proper layout and alignment.Make preventative maintenance checks and inspections as required and on timeEvaluate equipment malfunctions with a sense of urgency to minimize downtimeInstall, replace, or change machine parts and attachments, according to production specificationsHelp modify equipment as necessary to improve safety, quality, productivity and reliabilityPerform tasks in a quality fashion by meeting or exceeding the internal customer requirements</li><li>

Requirements:

Learn to communicate professionally with plant personnel as to the important repair steps taken, parts ordered, and estimated time to complete the repairs or projectsMaintain proper housekeeping expectation for work area, equipment and toolsAttend classes at Northwest State or Owen's Community College

High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).Enjoy fixing things or taking them apart to see how they work.Prefer hands on learning over quiet study.Natural problem solving abilities.Proficient communication kills, particularly, the ability to explain mechanical issues.Must be able to perform physically demanding work, such as climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, twisting and bending for extended periods of time.Reliability, dependability and self-motivation.Willing to go to school while working a minimum of 30 hours per week.

Target Starting Pay 26.39 (18.59 base pay + 42% Avg.
