We are seeking an experienced Electrical Layout / Total Station Operator to support commercial and industrial electrical construction projects. This role is responsible for precise field layout, verification, and as‑built documentation using total stations and related surveying/ layout technology.
The ideal candidate understands electrical construction drawings, is comfortable working independently in the field, and can coordinate closely with foremen, project managers, and general contractor survey control.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesField Layout & Surveying
Operate total stations (GT‑703 or similar) to perform electrical layout for:Underground conduit and duct banksStub‑ups and embedsEquipment pads, anchor bolts, and housekeeping padsSwitchgear, transformers, generators, and MCCsEstablish layout using GC‑provided control points and benchmarksVerify horizontal and vertical elevations prior to concrete pours and equipment settingCoordination & Verification
Coordinate layout with BIM/VDC models, electrical drawings, and site plansWork with foremen and crews to ensure accurate placement and clearancesIdentify and communicate conflicts or discrepancies before installationSupport multi‑trade coordination efforts on large projectsAs‑Built & Documentation
Capture installed conditions for as‑built drawingsMaintain organized layout data and field notesAssist project teams with turnover documentation when requiredEquipment & Quality Control
Maintain and care for surveying equipmentPerform routine checks for accuracy and calibrationFollow company safety policies and jobsite procedures at all times QualificationsRequired Qualifications
Ability to read and interpret:Electrical plans and specificationsSite and civil drawingsBIM or coordinated layout drawingsProficiency with basic data transfer (USB, SD card, or Bluetooth)Preferred Qualifications
2+ years of experience operating total stations in construction layoutExperience with electrical construction (commercial, industrial, or data center preferred), or other types of constructionExperience on data centers, industrial plants, or large commercial projectsFamiliarity with BIM/VDC workflows (Revit, Trimble, etc.)Survey or construction layout training or certificationTools & Technology Used

The employee is regularly required to stand and walk for an extended period. The employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to manipulate or feel objects, tools, or controls. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work EnvironmentThe employee may work in an office environment, construction site office trailer, or on a construction job site during construction operation hours. Some duties in this position may be performed under periodically disagreeable working conditions typical of a construction jobsite including working outdoors at times in inclement weather, exposure to water, dust, dirt, grease, paint fumes, chemicals, and equipment noise and vibration. This job may require driving to / from other job or constructions sites, sometimes working at more than one site in a day or during the week. Some jobsites may require working in tunnels, or on roofs or catwalks.
