Job Description
We are seeking a Senior-level Electrical Engineer with an active PE license to lead and deliver electrical design solutions for healthcare facilities, including hospitals, outpatient centers, and specialty medical environments. This role focuses on designing and coordinating electrical systems within healthcare settings, ensuring safety, reliability, and efficiency.
Responsibilities
Lead and review electrical system designs for healthcare facilities.Coordinate power, lighting, and life safety systems.Design and coordinate building control systems, normal and emergency power distribution systems, and lighting and alarm systems.Manage projects or multiple workstreams, supporting construction and field issue resolution.Mentor junior engineers and participate in quality control and technical leadership efforts.Experience as Engineer of Record and with renovation projects in occupied healthcare facilities is highly valued.Essential Skills
Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.Professional Engineer (PE) License required.Minimum of 7 years of experience in the building design consulting industry (8 years preferred).Advanced proficiency in core electrical engineering principles, including circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electrical and electronic systems.Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and engineering design software.Knowledge of NFPA, IES standards, Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI), and experience with Master Specification editing tools such as eSPECS.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in healthcare environments is preferred but not required.Familiarity with energy-efficient system design and healthcare sustainability goals.Involvement in client interviews and business development.Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.Work Environment
This role is fully in-office with earned flexibility over time. The Rock Island, IL office is a professional, design-focused engineering environment where Senior engineers lead teams in person and regularly meet with clients face-to-face. The workspace is quiet and structured to support heads-down design, coordination, and technical review, with dedicated workstations equipped for full design delivery, including multiple monitors and access to Revit/BIM and engineering tools. Engineers work alongside other disciplines in the same office, enabling real-time collaboration. The office includes project rooms and meeting spaces used for internal coordination and client discussions. While the pace is demanding, the expectation is sustainable delivery supported by clear workload planning and open conversations around work-life balance.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rock Island, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $175000.00/hr.
