Electrical Designer
Job Title: Electrical DesignerJob Description The Electrical Designer will engage in various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical designs, report preparation, and the creation of proposal and construction documentation. As part of a project team, you will work on diverse projects with a wide range of project types and clients. Your role will involve designing electrical projects, including creating electrical schematics, grid plan layouts, electrical power systems, lighting systems, protection and controls, and site and facility design, all while adhering to company, client, and project standards. Responsibilities + Design and develop electrical schematics and grid plan layouts. + Plan and create drawings for production work, incorporating problem analysis and design calculations. + Execute changes to designs or sketches and incorporate redlines or mark-ups on ongoing projects. + Analyze reports, drawings, and tests to plan and design projects. + Interpret and incorporate design codes and specifications related to project requirements. + Review design drawings for quality assurance within scope, budget, and schedule. + Compute volume calculations for conduit/grounding layouts and panel wiring diagrams. + Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings and related information. + Ensure clear and concise written and verbal communications for project client coordination. + Comply with all policies and standards and perform other assigned duties. Essential Skills + 7+ years of AutoCAD design experience. + Advanced ability to utilize 2D & 3D applications for engineering drawings/designs. + Understanding of engineering calculations, design, and design systems. + Experience in capital project design, specifically with large budget projects. + Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Bentley Microstation electrical design. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Bachelor's degree in drafting/design with 7+ years of related experience, or + Associate degree with 8+ years of related experience, or + High School diploma with a minimum of 9 years of progressive detailing and design experience. + Substation design experience is preferred. Work Environment This role is based in a consulting, professional engineering firm environment with a team of approximately 15 engineers and project managers located in downtown Lexington. The position offers a hybrid schedule (3 days in the office, 2 days work-from-home) after the initial onsite integration period of 6 months. The office follows a business casual dress code, and the role requires some local site visits, approximately 5% travel, without overnight stays. The team is highly collaborative within Lexington and across the organization, providing a supportive and culture-driven work environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lexington, KY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $39.00 - $46.99/hr.
