Electrical Designer
Actalent
Description
Position Summary
The Wiring Designer is responsible for transforming electrical schematics into accurate, detailed point‑to‑point wiring diagrams and control panel layouts that guide production teams in building switchgear assemblies. This role ensures every conductor, connection, and device is clearly documented, verified, and delivered on schedule. Using AutoCAD—along with company‑defined tool palettes and custom blocks—the Wiring Designer produces clean, consistent drawings that support efficient, error‑free manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
Interpret electrical schematics and create precise point‑to‑point wiring diagrams using AutoCAD, in-house palettes, and custom blocks.
Develop control panel layouts showing device locations, DIN rail arrangements, shipping‑split connectors, terminal blocks, wireways, and other panel‑mounted components.
Conduct thorough self‑checks to confirm every conductor, terminal, and connector aligns with the source schematic.
Participate in peer‑review sessions to identify and resolve discrepancies before drawings are released to production.
Update drawings promptly based on engineering revisions, ensuring production always works from current documentation.
Work collaboratively with production teams to address redlines and answer questions related to wiring diagrams.
Verify wiring diagram accuracy on the shop floor when needed, visually inspecting panels to confirm correctness and identify potential build issues.
Escalate critical discrepancies to the design engineering team when issues cannot be resolved at the drafting level.
Collaborate regularly with Electrical Engineers to clarify ambiguous schematics or obtain missing information.
Provide feedback on design-for-manufacturability issues, such as complex routing, crowded terminal strips, or space constraints.
Participate in team meetings to share lessons learned, discuss recurring issues, and propose process improvements.
Perform occasional onsite visits (2–3 times per year) to various plant locations to review in‑process panels and support production teams.
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of experience interpreting electrical drawings, including wiring diagrams or electrical schematics, in a production, testing, or design environment.
Experience in panel‑shop or industrial control drafting; experience with switchgear is preferred but not required.
Proficiency in AutoCAD.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Experience with document control systems or ECO/EO tracking tools is a plus.
