Job Description
Gwinnett County Voter Registrations and Elections is responsible for planning and organizing all elections and voter-related activities and assists Gwinnett's cities and special districts with election preparations. The division is comprised of staff who are proud to be part of a team that works together to assure that every vote counts.
Election Poll Officials must be U.S. Citizens who take pride in their work, are willing to take direction, are detail oriented and patient and enjoy working with people.
Each election, nearly 500 citizens are recruited to assist voters at the polls. Poll officials receive training and materials to ensure confidence and readiness to help voters. All poll officials must arrive to their assigned polling place by 5:30 a.m. on Election Day and end the day after voting has ended, paperwork is completed and equipment and supplies packed up, usually 9:00 p.m. -10:00 p.m. Election Day poll officials receive a stipend, by position, as noted below. Poll officials are not allowed to leave the polling location after being sworn in unless an emergency occurs. Gwinnett County does not provide meals; therefore, polls officials should plan accordingly including coolers, if needed, as not all locations have a refrigerator or microwave. Additionally, smoking or vaping is not allowed at most private facility polling locations, and by ordinance, no smoking or vaping is allowed on any Gwinnett County owned facility.
Poll Officials are also eligible to work during Advance in person, three weeks prior to Election Day, only if they are currently assigned to an Election Day polling location.
