Job Title: Environmental Health and Safety Specialist
Job Description
This position offers specialized support to the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Department, working in close collaboration with the EHS team and site operations. The role primarily focuses on maintaining waste management programs, including hazardous, regulated medical, pharmaceutical, and other specialized wastes.
Responsibilities
Plan and execute Safety Preventative Maintenance and Inspections.Manage the regulated and specialized waste program at the site.Collaborate with warehouse personnel to track and remove specialized rejected products and materials.Oversee and maintain the Regulatory compliance matrix.Coordinate sampling of the wastewater.Perform safety inspections of personal protective equipment (PPE).Assemble, train, and maintain the site emergency response team.Track various EHS metrics.Coordinate and monitor external contractors involved with the removal of regulated and specialized waste streams.Draft reports for review in preparation for final submission to the local authority.Update the SDS database system whenever chemical suppliers send new material safety data sheets.Maintain an up-to-date chemical inventory of all approved chemicals on site and audit annually.Conduct EHS training and liaise with occupational health on injuries and medical emergencies.Conduct annual required training and regulatory drills.Essential Skills
Experience in waste management, hazardous waste, risk assessment, RCRA, industrial hygiene, and chemical safety.Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental, Health, or Safety.Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an Environmental, Health, and Safety role.Experience in Hazardous and Regulated Waste Management.RCRA and DOT certifications required within 60 days of employment.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Previous pharmaceutical industry experience.Experience in a GMP environment.Familiarity with EHS management systems such as Enablon, Intelex, and VelocityEHS.Work Environment
The work takes place in a very large GMP regulated manufacturing facility undergoing expansion, including the construction and demolition of facilities. The role involves approximately 60% time spent on the floor and 40% at a desk. The facility is in the process of adding new manufacturing lines, with plans to grow the team. This position provides an exciting opportunity to be the EHS expert for the entire facility, with potential for growth into a manager role.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bedford, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $34.00 - $38.00/hr.
