EHS Coordinator



 

As a key member of GFL’s Liquid team in Sarnia, you will be committed to developing a healthy and safe work environment for all our team members through hands-on, field-based collaboration with front-line supervisors and employees. With the support of a national team, you will be relied upon to bring support and guidance in the health and safety field, allowing you to advise on various unique obstacles that we face on a day-to-day basis. Working closely with our operational team, the Safety Advisor will ensure that safety is at the top of the mind for all team members and at the forefront of all daily activities. Frequent travel (70%) will be required.

Key Responsibilities:
• Guide, implement and maintain a culture of safety excellence throughout the region
• Ensure all GFL’s safety polies and procedures are being followed
• Conducting regularly scheduled site visits
• Partake in regularly scheduled tailgate meetings, weekly and monthly safety meetings
• Assist in the development of SOP’s
• Conduct and evaluate safety training including new employee orientations
• Support with incident investigations utilizing root cause analysis methodologies
• Work collaboratively with operations to identify, analyze and ultimately control hazards
• Review, classify and report on injuries, property damages, and environmental events
• Support with audits and inspections to evaluate safe work practices and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation
• Perform other related duties that correspond to the overall function of the position

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
• Valid Driver's License
• Pursuit of CRSP, NCSO or other professionally recognized safety certification
• Minimum of two years of progressive Health and Safety experience
• Ability to identify and evaluate hazards to develop hazard control systems
• Basic understanding of chemistry and waste classes, both classroom and practical is an asset
• Willingness to travel
• Experience with TDG, both handling and transportation, is an asset
