Job Summary

The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Undergraduate Advising Office is seeking an enthusiastic and team-oriented individual to join our office as an Undergraduate Academic Advisor. This position will play a key role in educating, guiding, and empowering both prospective and current ECE undergraduate students. This position provides accurate and timely academic advising on curriculum, academic programming and resources, policies and procedures. Our office is a collaborative, team environment that focuses on working alongside faculty on the student experience. We are looking for candidates with a creative and collaborative spirit and a deep commitment to supporting students. We strive to create an office culture that promotes a healthy work life balance. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Advise prospective and declared ECE undergraduate students with in-person/phone/virtual appointments and email on topics such as course selection and registration, major/career exploration, degree requirements, experiential learning opportunities, academic success strategies, University and College policies, and academic and personal resourcesUse advising technology to maintain accurate student records including note takingTrack the progress of specific populations and provide proactive advisingFacilitate group and one-on-one orientation meetings for both cross campus and external transfer studentsFacilitate declaration events for new ECE studentsSupport recruitment, graduation, open house, welcome week, campus days, majors fairs, and other large and small events geared toward current or prospective studentsPlan and execute programs and events geared toward student enrichment and community buildingTriage matters to the Assistant Director of Academic Programs, Chief Program Advisor or other U of M campus resources as appropriateServe as a back-up support to other student services staff as neededOther duties as assigned
 Required Qualifications*Bachelor's Degree and 2+ years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experienceExperience in one or more of these areas: academic advising, counseling, student development, education or administrative student services in higher educationBroad knowledge of student development, advising and mentoring, higher education practices, U of M procedures, and campus resourcesDemonstrated ability to manage time effectively with a high degree of accuracy while working in an environment of fluctuating priorities and interruptionsAbility to communicate accurate information in a context-aware and welcoming styleProgrammatic and event planning experienceDetail-oriented with the ability to recognize and investigate data anomaliesStrong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) ability to successfully work with a diverse faculty, staff, and student bodyDemonstrated ability to work independently, exercising a high level of resourcefulness, and the ability to work in a collaborative manner on a teamAbility to maintain detailed records and manage sensitive information confidentially. Familiar with FERPA
 Desired Qualifications*Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or related field is strongly preferredModes of Work
